So I'm learning how to ollie(while grabbing something so I can balance and jump)

And I think i'm nearly doing it but the thing is he doesnt 'jump' high enough i think

I do the pop thingy and jump and open my legs but it ends up going so fast it feels like I barely did a ollie and more like just popped

What am I doing wrong? Jumping too low? My pop is weak? My leg isnt sliding correctly? sorry if my english is bad
>>
>>1495574
Do the pop bigger, like your literally jumping on your pop foot. Also make sure you're sliding your foot on the board in an upward direction to even it out. Also I use to do drugs. I still do drugs, but I use to too.

Sup, guys. I skateboarded a lot when I was in highschool and elementary school. Haven't done it for +10 years.
But recently, having moved in with a buddy who skates a lot I'm seriously considering buying a new board.

The boards I skated back in the day were Chocolate, Darkstar and Blind.
have no idea what's good or considered the Gold Standard today. Would love some help picking out some stuff or better understanding what I need to consider when buying parts.
I'd ask my bud but he's a long boarder and I'm not terribly interested in getting one of those.
thanks in advance.

Currently sitting on a foot injury (back of the heel bruise), and it's agony to not skate.

I recently picked it back up after, like it seems most of you cunts in here, 8-10 years of not skating. Those skate days were the best though. There was a great vert park only half a mile away from my street that I went to almost everyday I remember.
Anyways go out and skate bros!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCrhf-pyX_g
Reading instructions wouldn't help at all.
Start practicing, and if you fuck up your board, your board dies a noble death.
It'll give you an excuse to get a good one.

I've been trying to decide since I'm progressing with a regular stance, but haven't learned many tricks switch or nollie.

which ever's more comfortable, but i think skating switch would be cool because then nollie would be like 'switch fakie'
>>
>>1502390
i found flip tricks easier nollie

>>1502390
Nollie is always a good place to start, and then switch. After you learn some a couple nollie tricks then move on to switch tricks, remember to use the nose to pop for all switch and nollie tricks.

i've been seriously skating for about a month now, i can raise the board but i can't get a good ollie
i just can't bring my front foot up and forward to level out the board
it's fucking frustrating lads

but back to the park i go, i wanna be good before i get old
i don't wanna be that overaged guy at the park who's trying to learn skate
(i'm 22 now so it's getting late)
not that there's anything wrong with being old learning to skate
but it's just a bit uncomfortable being that person
not to the people at the park they probably don't mind
but the people who i know who don't skate would probably think different of me
like "why don't you have another hobby, why don't you buy a bicycle?"
or "gee i wish i could learn something like that but i have a job that i need to go to"
anyway this was a pretty convoluted way of saying i'm going burly but i'm not going early fuck that i'm an old man

Learn how to do bs reverts. You'll notice that your weight is perfectly ventures above the board when doing the revert. Your back is straight and you're not leaning back or forward. This is the exact same form that is needed for a bs 180. Introduce a pop to your reverts. A really small one at first. Your tail shouldn't even really leave the ground. Practise these over and over until you can do the 9/10 times. Thendo the exact same thing but pop harder and higher. Eventually you'll have effortless and steezey bs 180s like me and the bs 180 will become your favourite trick like me.

The metal/painted part ends after the storm drain.

You think with enough speed I could clear past the dry concrete section? The area before is covered in loose pebbles from a driveway so I could come back with a broom. There's still a crossing though so the angle would be pretty tight.

How long did it take you guys to land your first ollie while moving consistantly? I know the answer is basically keep practicing and itll happen, but just a timeline of how often you practiced, because holy shit it's near impossible to skate here without nearly dying of heatstroke. I managed to land twice moving maybe in the 20 minutes I was out there, but the other times was just filled with defeat and exhaustion.

note that I'm not giving up, it's just I don't know if I'm making real progress or not. I can land them stationary though, most of the time

Also wheel bites a bitch but I feel if I make my trucks any tighter then itll be really hard to skate.
>>

>>
>>1516041
I'm in houston, but almost the same story but humid as fuck. I have the motion down I think but its less the motion and getting it started then the midway of When I'm in the air and how I should land. I also need to pop correctly because my tail isn't hitting the ground each time, so it feels...off.
>>
>>1515714

Honestly learning to skate is easier than when you were a child, at least that's what me and my friends have noticed. Obviously you have probably developed a little bit of a fear for injury, especially if you have a job that you have to be physically well for. Once you remaster the basics again things get easier, tricks make much more sense than when you were a child (and the web is full of guides for tricks as well) and are easier to execute. You might not want to set your goals too high tho, might as well be happy and just have fun, and see where it gets you. Keep skating anon.
>>
>>1513777
you have to have more weight on your tail if you want to go over an uneven spot with that kind of speed. if you go faster, and wax it you will just ram through it.

Ben, Blake, and Jeremy are there. Also Cory Kennedy makes another cameo
>>
>>1520708
my right leg is also 'stronger'. when i started skating i thought that it should be in front so that i can easily kick out for flip tricks and also because of the emphasis on the slide for ollies. i guess some people focus on the pop more, so they want a strong back foot

>>1521588

For those curious I went back to the slappy spot today but forgot to bring a brush.

I found that just starting out on the road is a lot easier than carving out from the pavement back onto the kerb, so much so that I can put more speed into it now. It's just a shame it's covered in pebbles but I'll be back asap to clear it if I can now that I've learned the line.

It's predicted to rain over the next couple days so until then anyone have advice on my ollies? This field is the only "smooth" flat I have outside of two towns away and beyond.

Pro-Tip: learn your tricks while moving to start with, because ollie-ing while not moving is different from while moving, and you'll basically have to re-learn it. Also don't get in the habit of looking down at your board while trying to do a trick.

Not the anon you replied to, but where should i be looking? And do i just picture my legs and feet doing the trick with my minds eye?
>>
>>1526580
When you start ollieing while moving and trying to jump over things, like up a curb or over a crack, you're going to want to look at what you're about to jump over so you can time the jump right. With time the foot positioning will just come natural and you won't have to look, just like learning to type without looking at the keyboard.
>>
>>1526297
>Also don't get in the habit of looking down at your board while trying to do a trick.

what? why not? how the fuck are you supposed to do the trick? when I approach an obstacle I look at it and then as soon as I pop I look at my board. I don't understand how it would be easier if you can't see the board
>>
>>1526297

>learn your tricks while moving to start with

there is truth in this but there's also the practice of getting the motions correct first. like the flick when you do a kickflip or the rotation in an impossible.

>>1526580
what i do is i ride around with learning the foot positioning but not attempting the trick until i get the footing right.

I just started skating and I can push if I've got a nice open area with a flat surface just about but I can't really use my board to get around because I either lose my balance or get stopped by small obstacles on the pavement. Center your foot flatly on the board. Place it horizontally in the center of the board. Should stop you from veering off.

honestly it took me like 5 or 6 months to being able to do them constantly moving fast...
the thing when you learn tricks stationary first is that you learn to do them but jumping really high and weird, because you are standing still.
I've noticed that when you are going faster and try to ollie, you have to get much closer to the ground if you want to try to pop as hard... and that time it takes to realize this is what people calls confidence

Shred the gnar bro, 'who fucking cares' is the unofficial motto of skating. As far as your ollies, you're probably keeping weight on your back foot when you're trying to pull the board up with your front foot. You kinda wanna 'punch' the board with your back foot, in that when you throw a punch you don't just leave your arm out full extended. Bring your back foot up after you pop the tail so that the tail kinda bounces and your front foot evens it the bounce.

I got a question /esg/, I heard that doing a 900 is extremely hard to perform but is possible. I want to know if it's possible to do something larger than a 900?
>>
How many of you have ever hit your head skating before?
Did it today and I'm lying awake paranoid about it even though I know I'm okay.
>Slam on to hip and head bounces back onto concrete
>No blurry vision, concussion, or any other signs of brain injury
>Doesn't really hurt when hit, just surprised my head touched the ground
>Still kind of scared my head made minor contact with the ground going super slow

I always get checked out just in case.
You can't underestimate head injuries dude. I like skating but I also like living to skate more too. Call me paranoid but I've seen small incidences turn into big problems and I can't chance it man.
>I'm a pussy
>>
>>1531095
I hear you man, but I've hit my head harder just walking into stuff not paying attention with no problem. It's just that stigma of head injury from sports. The fall was probably the equivalent of me sitting up on concrete and letting myself lay back onto the ground like you do in bed
>>
>>1531105
You're sitting on 4chan so you should be okay. Nothing strange is up, yeah?
>>
>>1531109
Nah, just sitting with my own already paranoid mind that convinces me there's something wrong with me daily as well as added anxiety from drinking a ton of coffee

i was trying to nose manual a curved ledge and there was wax on it. when i turned, my wheels slipped and i fell head first. it was pretty scary. i'm still afraid to do it again
>>
>>1531242
helmet?
>>
>>1531249
this

you'll look like less of a goof wearing a helmet than you would steering your wheenchair with a straw in your mouth
>>
or maybe sure the ledge is clean and clear...
>>
>>1531085
When I was putting a mattress cover on I was standing on the frame, and my sock caught on something and caused me to fall off the bed. Even though my head didn't hit the ground, I still felt dizzy, and the first thing I thought was concussion. Couldn't go to sleep that night without going to the emergency room first.

I did, stop being stupid
>>
>>1502786
my bushings are worn differently, so I just need to push and feel it to see which way it's facing
>>
>>1503339
i used to practice popping and dragging my front foot up (without jumping to get air) just to get a feel for what I should be doing, maybe give yourself 30 mins or so getting a feel for it before you get frustrated with it
>>
>>1503451
I had this a while back. I just took a week off skating to let it rest a bit. it's the equivalent of getting a bruise on your arm and punching it a few times a day and wondering why it won't heal
>>
>>1504431
try placing your foot a little more central. like if when you pop, the ball of your foot is in the middle of the tail (or maybe even a little further). this'll make your board rotate once you take air
>>
>>1505282
its all a learning thing. I had to learn a new technique since I dislocated my arm (so that I wouldn't throw backwards and pop my socket out again). maybe practicing Ollie's on flat ground while forcing yourself to try a new style would help? i dunno
>>
>>1530366
maybe not even a sprain. rest it for a day or so and see how you're doing before you skate again, just to stay on the safe side

>Nothing on the way home or in the shower.
You skate in the shower?

>>1530727
I'm a beginner. Can't ollie yet, so I mostly cruise around. If I listen to music, it's just the ipod on shuffle. Could be Tom Waits, could be Shonen Knife, could be Ween or something like Sockeye. If it doesn't fit the mood, I skip the track.

I'm 19 and just did a moving ollie for the first time after quitting like 4 years ago. went out to skate in an industrial area at 3:00AM but bailed out since I woke up some bum yelling "GO!" and was running my way.
Felt good today. I'm pretty new to this general any tips on manuals and powerslides? Been trying power slides but my wheels are too grippy.
>>1531612
dude, I hear some people can do an ollie moving than not moving

Good work rationalizing your cowardice as intelligence.
>>
Do you even skate?
>>
Fuck. Myƶs elbows still hurt.
>>
>>1529644
keeeeek, that was fucking EXCELLENT.
I liked how you recorded your breaks, which were so good, rock music, you with that shirt and the minimalistic, yet effectively satanic, "EAT ME" graffity behind.

>blurry vision

I got that once when I was a kid for some hours, after I hit my head on a concrete wall (the backside of it, underneath which the vision centre is). I still think it's radical how I got out of this unscathed.

It isn't cowardice if the thing being done is completely pointless in the first place.
