I keep landing slightly to one side and the board flips over and whacks me in the ankle in the same exact spot over and over

also is it autistic to wear like long soccer socks bunched up around my ankles/lower shins?

it is way too hot to wear pants

How come it's 40 degrees celsius outside and people skate with jeans, and to make it worse black jeans ?

Technically it is better to cover as much skin as possible when it is really hot (30+celsius) outside. Your body heats up faster when your skin is in contact with the sun, where as clother absorb the heat. Ofc black/dark pants and shirt will make you boil really fast tho. Also your skin will not burn.
>>
>>1465679
this is false
just today i was hot as fuck, peeled my shirt off and was instantly cooler

Whatever man, if you really want to skate you'll go the extra mile. I am 20 and just started less than a week ago, just doing my first ollies today. You can start now and learn something, maybe you'll even figure out that you don't like it and that would be totally okay but at least you will have tried. We're still so young man, let's try not to limit ourselves too much.

How do I get confident cruising around hilly areas on a regular skateboard? I live in a town where most of the streets are hills and not a lot of straight flat area, potholes included. I've got a job coming up and am buying a skateboard as I bought a longboard forever ago for some reason.

How did you guys gain confidence to shred around without dying in your town?
>>
>>1478736
don't know what to tell you besides get confident stopping/bailing without hurting yourself
or plan your route to avoid huge hills

just skate everyday and eventually cruising will be second nature, bombing hills is like the best feeling ever imo
just know when it's too steep for you to handle for now
>>
>>1478766
how did you get into bombing hills though? I've tried cruising and bombing the hill by my house and I just end up bailing. of course it doesnt really help that I haven't really skated at all prior. I guess I should just start crusing around with a regular board. I'm just trying to understand how to carve and control speed.Shits scary

>>
>>1479053
you know if I saw a 24 year old dude skating I would honestly try and skate with him instead of the children that are around my skatepark. Just dont give a fuck what kids or teens say about what you're doing and skate around town, find a spot or a local skatepark
>>
>>1478768
you don't have to start at the top of the hill. go little by little till you're confident enough to do the whole thing
>>
>>1479053
You're gonna look like a dork either way, just embrace it
>>
>>1479053
to other adults you're going to look like an idiotic man-child; to the younger generation you're going to look like a dork or "hello fellow kids" type guy depending on how you dress.

accepting that you will not be accepted by anyone for riding a skateboard past the age of 18 is the biggest obstacle to skating, but many people ultimately find it worth it to make it over this mental hurdle.
>>
What is it called when you ollie and grab the board by the nose and throw it around into a shuv? Finger shuv?
>>

>>
>>1478736

If a hill is too much, foot brake. If you need to take it slow, but not enough to foot brake, carve left and right. Eventually youll get to the point where you won't need both.

Oh, and skate everyday, that's the best advice.
>>
>>1478896

I'm not him, but consider fixing your trucks, inspecting the bushings, and whatnot. Also check to see if the hangars are bent.

but please continue the baiting, its highly entertaining.

Either one dude.

>>
Who is your skateboard husbando?
>>
>>1480697
Softness is the biggest factor in a smoother ride. I recommend you stay at whatever diameter your currently comfortable with and just go with a softer duro. Larger wheels primarily have applications in luge/downhill long-board set-ups where highest possible speed is the primary goal.

Going from the hardest wheels to something like 80a will be night and day as far as smoothness goes. If you get bigger wheels, the smoothness will increase negligibly (if you notice it at all) and your board will feel higher off the ground and more bottom heavy the larger you go. Additionally the larger wheels may be more likely to bite.

All indoor parks close down fast
and all shops are turning into longboard shit

How do we fix this? also someone link me 2 a toronto skateshop
>>
I have 2 questions:
1 - Is it important to choose a stance? I am a snowboarder and always went duck style, since I had no preference on which foot to put in front. People at the skatepark said I should first concentrate on one and maybe try the other after a few weeks. Right now it's easy for me to Ollie with both stances exactly the same.
Tldr: is it important for a beginner to concentrate on one stance.
2 - how do I get those fuckheads at the park to shut up about me wearing pads? I feel safer that way, since I have some medical conditions which could permanently fuck me up really bad.
>>
>>1480965
tell those kids to fuck off. skatings all about you anyways.
>>
>>1480965
It's better if you focus on one stance for a couple of months before trying anything new in the other.
Also just ignore those cunts, they can't tell you what to do
>>
>>1480965
>how do I get those fuckheads at the park to shut up about me wearing pads?
You can't, sorry.
Ignoring them is your best bet
>>
>>1480965
On point two, I've skated at several parks with Helmet, Elbow and Wrist and never heard anybody say anything about it. Sorry you've got a shit community in your skateparks. Not really anything you can do, maybe plug in headphones since you probably don't need to make friends with the people in your park.

I'm old as fuck (31) and just got a new skateboard because my weird girlfriend wanted to try it. I used to skate when I was like 18, but I really sucked at it.

My aim is to at least learn a decent ollie and a few basic tricks. However, my problem is that I skate in a regular stance, but I can only do an ollie while in goofy stance, so I usually have to turn the board around first. When I try to push in a goofy stance, I can't even skate straight. What should I do?
>>
>>1487114
Do nollies instead or learn to do them regular
>>
>>1487114
practice your ollie going regular.
>>
I also have the problem that my new board leans a bit too much towards the site when I turn left and right and when I practice ollies standing, it sometimes bends so much that I can't stay on the board.
>>
>>1487199
You could try and tighten your trucks a bit but I think most of it comes down to your balance, skate a lot and it will come to you naturally.

So I began skating last week and have been praticing balance

I know how to walk pretty fast on the board while keeping balance but I sometimes feel I position my "walking" foot on the wrong way(when I push with my foot straight I usually balance using only my left foot bc Im regular but then I need extra balance) so I end up falling.

And...I'm trying to learn some 'easy' tricks like manual, jumping on a still board using a flip, caveman, but my friend who skated when he was younger is giving me a hard time saying to focus on the ollie

So my problem with ollie is that I end up popping wrong I always end up doing a pop shoveit kinda pop instead of a normal one
And he always try to get me in the local skate park but I don't feel like I'm ready to go to one yet.

When I was younger I tried to skate and went to one with him and end up falling while going down on the half pipe and felt terribly embarassed so I sat down and he went and made some real progress and I was just there looking

So what should I do?

tl;dr should i focus on learning ollie or learning to balance at fast speeds and droping from bowls and halfpipes
>>
>>1492752
learn being able to handle the board in general conditions first. always learn the basic of basics first so you dont have to worry about them
>>
>>1492781

Yeah thats what I tell myself

I began skating again for the sole purpose of arriving faster at my college but I guess going to skate parks and learning tricks and stuff is cool

The thing is he's pretty advanced while I'm a beginner and he insists on me going to the skatepark so we pratice there but I think its too soon

Any tips on how to ollie?

I do the common mistakes but the closest I got to doing it I was praticing while sitting so Idk

You gotta get to the park and get over the fear of it.
Everybody starts somewhere man. If some cunts laugh at you for crashing, shake it off.
Get the basics under your belt, but don't be afraid to head to the park before you think you might be ready.
Everybody sucks at some point.

8.5 all day anon
>>
>>1492812
I'm not too good at skating at all right now, I'm also just now getting into it but its the same rule for mostly everything. I wouldnt worry about and ollie until you're confident that you can just cruise, carve and turn with no problems at all. You can still practice manueverability at the skatepark, just because your friend is at a faster pace doesnt mean you need to be. no sense in any competition.

also I thought the usual tip is just pop the board with your back and jump with it, and as your in the air you slide your leg left. thats what people tell me all the time.
>>
anybody here pop ollies while bombing? I feel like if I tried it I would die, my ollie game isn't that great yet though anyways.
>>
>>1492893

thanks for the tip. yea the problem is hes at an entirely other level. he can do heelflips and even has some brands giving him money and taking pics and stuff.

the ollie thingy is kind of fear i guess. i used to try it and ended up nearly learning how to do a pop shove it because i was popping wrong, and i dont even included jumping into the movements yet. was just doing that raw ollie where you jump just a little.

>>1492864

yeah. you're right. nobody laughed at me or anything it was just that i saw that i dont have even balance while walking at fast speeds going straight so how would i drop from a half pipe and things like that

so i guess he's right about goig to the park cause you get to make friends and stuff but at the same time i dont really know how to ollie and dont know if i should jump over some basic things i wouldve been more comfortable learning first

I figured out that when I do (pop) shuvits, if I kind if push with my front foot the opposite direction I am scooping it is much easier and more consistent

is this a bad habit?

I'm not really spinning it with my front foot, but just kind of guiding/pushing it for the first part of the rotation if that makes sense and when I do this it never flips over or ends up in front or behind me

bare wood on the deck when exposed to water will cause it to get a little soggy or lose a bit of it's pop each time it gets wet, you're probly fine dude re grip it and don't worry about the tail too much just keep that in mind when hitting puddles and wet grass etc. it's gonna happen your board get's a little moisture on it during it's life even if it's just from the air/sweat from sitting on it whatever just try to limit it. it all takes a toll and if it get's too wet it'll be all soggy and shitty. hell just buy a new deck if you want they're not that expensive at your local.
>>
>>1495696
yeah honestly you can start that now if you feel confident but i would wait until you can get it off the ground at least half the time, then you just incrementally do it rolling at a dead slow roll all the way up to comfortable cruising speed, I learned stationary then learning them while rolling was scary but you just take it a bite at a time honestly, I thought it would just click one day. nah. some people it just gets a little better everyday until your popping up and down shit with ease, make sure you are doing all the steps you mentioned earlier, don't skip any of them. just commit and keep doing it and you'll get it. oh and don't be afraid to fall when you start them rolling because if you chicken out you actually will lose your balance it's pretty safe once you just believe you got it. shit takes time yo.
>>
>>1495791

Yeah i've began praticing hardcore style on saturday. got better at cruising at fast speeds(though i dont really praticed on the road) so I could go on a bowl and spend today(and yesterday) doing ollie and some dumb tricks like jumping on the skate doing a flip and things like that. so my friend came over and he's kinda good, so he said to me try doing it while holding something taller than you so you can jump without fear and get more confidence slowly.

So i did it and did some exercises from a video where the guy do the movements step by step on repetition so I just mixed both things and kept doing it holding a bar

Then I felt like I was doing it kinda correctly(though not high enough) I called it a day

I feel like if i do it without holding something I wont feel confident enough to jump and finish the ollie idk
>>
>>1495736
Slant trucks are average but pretty good for beginners, also just my opinion but I would totally get that Krooked complete
>>
>>1495713
Bad habit. When you try more advanced tricks that employ the same scooping technique as a shuv (varials, 3 shuvs, 360 flips) you'll really regret not learning proper shuvs.

Understandable, I guess Revive fans would mostly be beginners and such.

You need trucks.
I've never had minilogo grip tape but it's probably decent.
Get minilogo bearings too if you want it a little cheaper.

A good set of 8 inch trucks would be ideal. Indy, Thunder, Venture, Silver or Krux have good 8" trucks

Some guys I know used to stand on their boards in the grass and try to push each other off, helps with balance and if you do fall gives you practice at falling... It's an art form

So, i can pop into 50-50s consistently now, and i can slide the whole curb. How the hell do i pop out? It seems like time goes 9000 times faster and i can not prep an ollie before the curb ends. Currently doing fs 50-50's if that makes a difference.
