I'm 19, if it counts. I was diagnosed a few weeks back, when I had been diagnosed during a routine checkup. It's spread to my brain already. I'm pretty calm about dying, but I only regret leaving my parents behind. (I'm an only child as well.) It hurts me to see them so sad, their child deteriorating before their eyes. What should I do with my things? And what should I do to help my parents cope with things? My medical bills are pretty hefty, and I want to relieve some of that burden from them. Thanks, /adv/.
>>
>>18683280
Wew. I think this thread topic is too heavy for most people on this board.

>What should I do with my things?
Does it matter?
>And what should I do to help my parents cope with things?
There's probably nothing you can do, just let them be there. Try making another memory for them to remember you by. There's no solution that'll make it easier for them or for you.
>>
Do you have Jesus?
>>
>>18683280
Smoker?
>>
Kill yourself. I'm sure a funeral is a lot cheaper than the continued cancer treatment.
>>
Have sex with as many prostitutes as you can, anon, and spend lots of time with your family. Take out payday loans and max out credit cards. Enjoy your life and do risky things like climbing mountains or skydiving.

Don't fall for what >>18683376 is saying. People closer to death realize this better than others so you much know by now but dedicating your life to temporal pleasures such as sex or "climbing mountains" is meaningless and empty.

Instead, follow >>18683363 and find Jesus if you haven't by now. What good is it enjoying pleasure in your remaining time and losing your soul? Dedicate yourself to eternal things.

Your local church will give you really good advice since they are used to aiding people close to death.
>>
>>18683386
Shitty advice. Nothing happens after you die. This is your only life.
>>
>>18683363
I know you're probably joking, but I've never been engaged in religion. Just church once every few weeks with my parents.
>>18683338
I guess it really doesn't, hah. Thanks anon. Guess I will try to make the most of the rest of my life.
>>
>>18683280
I'm sorry. I hope you get well.
what kind of cancer is it?

my suggestion is:
- do everything doctors say. take them seriously. you don't want to catch a cold or any other illness while doing chemo.
- don't worry about money. it's your life, money doesn't matter, not right now anyway
- read about your condition and the treatment. read as much as you can, try to understand it. perhaps you'll be able to help your doctor, at least a bit.

do you live in the US? perhaps you could try some experimental therapy? there have been some great advances in fighting cancer. it's called immunotherapy, and while it's not miraculous, it's improved some survival rates greatly.
>>
>>18683391
First of all, there is no way you can possibly assert that nothing exists after death. There is no evidence of such in the fields of reason, and also no evidence in the fields of faith.

Second, do you deny any a priori values to our existence? If you do - which would imply you fall in nihilism - then you'd also know that temporal pleasures are, too, meaningless... Although in a different way.

>>18683395
Go to the church, read biblical verses that relate to you.

I will beforehand recommend https://biblia.com/bible/niv/Ps.91 since it should bring you peace of mind.
>>
>>18683280
How did you get cancer? Smoker?
>>
>>18683376
I'd rather not have an dickload of STDS. But I will consider trying to skydive and such. Thanks.
>>18683368
Yep, been one since I was young. Hung out with the wrong crowd and I'm regretting it.
>>18683386
I guess I'll try and get back into Christianity. Though it might be meaningless, I want to have some sort of ignorance of the void after death.

Planning to be an organ donor for the rest of my functional organs, if possible.
>>
>>18683411
Cigarettes? Since when do you smoke?
Pls I need a reason to quit
Also does cancer hurt?
>>
>>18683280
Talk to your parents as much as you can. I don't have experience with close family dying, but I've see my mothers physical and part of her mental health go to shit through parkinsons disease. Whenever I've talked to her about it she said something like "don't be sad, it's ok". It's taken some weight off me whenever I've talked to her about it. So yeah, talking and more talking.

Maybe donate sperm in order to impregnate your mother in order to create a clone of you or something. Nah I'm kidding

>Also does cancer hurt?
it kills
>>
>>18683402
Pascal's wager is not a bad idea at this stage in OP's life.
>>
>>18683432
I know that it kills but on a scale of 1-10, how painful is it? I need to know, I've been trying to quit smoking for ages but I'm too fucking stupid and unmotivated to go through with it.
>>
>>18683421
One of the most painful diseases ever. Especially if it gets to your bones. WEw.
>>
>>18683436
The wager is moot. If Christianity is wrong, and another religion is true, he's fucked. Pantheism or atheism or deism. Meaning he can choose whatever religion he/she likes.
>>
>>18683400
Oh, I heard about immunotherapy. It's incredibly costly, though. My parents nor I can afford it- I've heard it costs up to 1 mil a year or $14,500 a month. I'm expected to live for about a few more months, continuing chemo and medication to help slow it down and minimize the effect it has. Thanks for the concern and help anon.
>>
>>18683421
Fucking quit, anon. Before it's too late. My family had a history of lung problems. I ignored it, smoked young, and that nipped me in the bud with cancer. Yes, it hurts. I have trouble breathing everyday, if I'm lucky to live, and I can't do many daily activities because I get winded easily. Spare your family the agony and quit. It's hard at first, but it gets easier once it's gone. You can avoid this, anon. Best of luck to quitting. Just imagine your loved ones when you feel tempted for a smoke.
>>
>>18683452
AFAIU, the experimental treatments are subsidized... but of course, they are experimental, with everything that implies.

>>18683445
you just need some self control...
>>
>>18683427
Hah, I actually considered donating some sperm to a sperm bank. Guess I'll scour around and see if I can. Yeah, I am trying to talk to my parents. I've been tying up loose ends and hanging out with close friends as well. Left a few notes and am considering the dead man's switch email. Thanks, I should start looking around for sperm banks, haha. At least I kind of have a child to pass on my legacy, if something like that is possible.
>>
>>18683459
Jesus Christ anon, I wish you all the best with your therapy, thanks for telling me how bad it is.
I'm going to do my best to quit.
>>
>>18683480
If it's needed, ask someone to chain you so you can't smoke, but quit whatever it costs
>>
Wishing you the best, anon. I hope you're at peace.
>>
>>18683476
Still a bit costly for me despite financial help. I'll keep looking around for some plans or charities that can aid with more costs.
>>18683445
I can't really answer from a scale of 1-10. It is a bitch to live with though. Imagine having to drag through everyday, in pain, and not knowing when exactly you'll die. Its worth staying away from, anon. Quiiiit. Before you're too late. Try getting a nicotine patch. They're sold in bulk at Costco and could possibly save your life! Every cigarette counts, anon. At least limit your smoking if you can't quit completely. (A ciggie a day or so.) Good luck.
>>
>>18683480
You're welcome! Thanks for the good wishes. I'm glad that I could help.
>>18683486
Thanks. I wish you happiness.
>>
>>18683491
I don't know you anon but I hope you beat the cancer.
>>
>>18683280
You can't do much, I fear.

As other Anons already said, follow your doctors advice and take your treatment seriously.

Do stuff that makes you happy. Get experiences. The sperm bank idea you had yourself is great as well. :)

Eat good. Concerning your stuff: Do you have anything valuable at all? If so draft a will to give it to a charity you like. If not just who ever you want to have it.

Concerning religion, I agree, look into it.
I recommend especially talking to a Priest/ go to confession (it is more private and intense) and looking into liberal Christianity (Tillich's "The Courage to be", Kierkegaard's "The Concept of Anxiety", Schleiermacher's "On religion - Speeches to it's cultured dispisers", the Works of Pannenberg, Bultmann and Sölle, etc.). If Christianity doesn't work out for you at least check other religions, like the Daodejing of Taoism.

Meditate and learn how to calm and relax yourself.

If it urns out you WILL die despite treatment, early look into the best ways of palliative medizine/ how to the best get rid of the pain that comes with dying. There ARE ways to basically eliminate pain for the most part, so you do not have to pull an hero, but better look into what those ways out while you still can, so you have a fixed plan when shit goes down the drain.

As well in that case plan your funeral the way you want it.

>>18683445
I know Vaping is for Fags yada yada etc. but it really helps with quitting smoking. Then slowly reduce the nicotine in the liquid over half a year or such.

>>18683452
Dang it. :-/ That really is why our western European health care systems have an edge. Here I never have to worry I won't be able to afford a treatment.
>>
>>18683280
Damn anon, I'm sorry to hear that (I really hope you are not baiting, that would be even sadder).
>What should I do with my things?
Maybe having certain things as a gift to the real important persons to you. Everything else...you could donate them. There are childs out there who could like your shit, and hell, why not?
>What should I do to help my parents cope with things?
Damn, this is really hard. This is literally the thing they fear the most. I can't give you any good advice on this but be with them, enjoy the time, and well, encourage them to keep going. It's really hard to lose someone so important this soon mate.
>>
Damn OP, I really don't know what to say to make you feel better. My 75-years old father has lung cancer and he can't have chemo due to pulmonary fibrosis. It's really shitty to have this happen to you when you are so young.

I'd say, instead of thinking about how sad it is to leave your parents behind, think that you made their lives shine for more than 19 years.

Wishing you the best.
>>
>>18683280
Perhaps buy them a pet so they'll have something living to remember you by. I think that would be good.

Dunno how long you got or if you're in a relationship but if I were you I'd try dating, it'll take your mind off of things and give you something to look forward to.

If you were previously into church then maybe go back if you feel like it'll help, otherwise maybe just go to a terminal cancer/chronic disease support group and talk to people there.

If all else fails, find a beach and go live your last days on it.
>>
>>18683533
Haha, my mom has an intense fear of dogs and cats. I'll try looking for some birds. Maybe a parakeet? Dunno. Gonna have to leave some instructions for them, but I doubt they would really.
>>18683514
Planning to cremate or naturally bury myself in a national park, if possible. Thanks for the insight, anon. I guess I'll try getting into Christianity again.
>>18683518
Damn, that sucks. I wish the best of luck for your father. You're a great son that did him proud.
>>18683516
Yeah, I'm scared that they'll hurt themselves or blame themselves for not stopping me. Thanks, I'll look into donating my things to kids. Maybe goodwill.
>>18683540
Funny! I'm planning to go to a beach soon with my friends. I'm not going to do dating, I don't want to have someone else bear the burden of death. I had a girlfriend a few years back but I broke it off when I got diagnosed. She understood, and she's still a close friend of mine.
>>18683505
Thanks. Even small things like this really brighten me up.
>>
>>18683662
Sorry, meant for a few years.
>>
>>18683662
>Yeah, I'm scared that they'll hurt themselves or blame themselves for not stopping me
This is important, they probably will feel that way anyway, but you should regardles let them know it was your choice. After all, when it happens, people will try to encourage them and have words of affection for them, but your words right now are more heavy and important to them than anything any third cousin has to say.
>>
>>18683684
I definitely will. We're pretty much alone here, as all of my family is a country over, in the UK. I'm scared that they'll hurt themselves. My mom miscarried multiple times before she had me. She's infertile now (had a bad infection and had to get it removed.) I'm their only child, and the only blood child they'll have. I'm just worried for them.
>>
>>18683662
Try doing some stuff you always wanted to do.

Also kiss a girl randomly at the mall. Just on the cheek.
>>
>>18683720
Fuck, sounds harsh. Sorry I can't be of more help anon. Maybe, you should share those fears with them, let them know what you don't want for them. That would be a good way to encourage them.
>>
>>18683280
Enjoy every minute you've got as much as you can. Maybe a bit less 4chan? Sunrise and sun set is good to watch, and chocolate.

/adv/ has been so great to me. This is a little gay, but you guys are truly nice and great. Best of luck for life to everyone here, I'm off for the night. Thanks, /adv/.

Op, listen up

First, if it's in your brain, don't bother going to doctors anymore. You're going to die, dude, any treatment isn't going to do shit. Second, talk to a pastor. Even if you aren't religious, they'll be real with you, and if they aren't Bible thumping they won't force religion down your throat, they'll talk to you about accepting death and your family. Third, go do whatever you wanted to do. You might be able to get make a wish or something to help, but I suggest you sell everything and go do the one thing you want to do before you die, because honestly man, that's all you've got left.

God speed in the after life, your next life, or whatever comes next.

I wish you the best anon and I sincerly hope that you recover and live a healthy life
