A combination of hormones, societal pressure and neediness/insecurities is what will push certain guys to become far more aggressive in their pursuit of a mate. I've never quite gone this route but I've seen how other dudes just stop giving a shit and smash as much as possible/flirt with tons of girls.

Why do you think most street salespeople and salespeople in shops (at least in big cities were the supply is ample) are young and attractive, because they sell more and are better at grabbing the attention of potential customers.

My point is that this idea that only women select on looks is bullshit, men do it just as much and I would argue to a larger degree since men are more visualy oriented in terms of attraction than women.

I tend to think that most relationships that have heavy imbalances are hard to sustain in the long term, whether the girl or the man is on the higher end.

Even though I think there is more room to compensate for looks for men than there is for women.

I read about a very simple experiment, don't know if it's valid or accurate but still interesting.

They showed a video of a man pulling up in a luxurious sportscar and another video of the same dude in a regular cheap car. And women rated the guy in the sports car significantly more attractive.

When they try the same thing with men there is hardly a difference.

Let me put it this way: I'm a good looking, but short, and mixed-race dude. We've all seen the charts about race and dating from OKCupid about a 100 times over I assume, but in real life I see it all play out just as you'd think after looking at it.

I don't have a lot of money. I'm not dirt broke, stupid or ugly but still, being mixed race, I tend to attract mostly Latino or Black girls. White girls rarely find me desirable, and the ones who do have history of "only dating dark skin men". The other ones, they could be successful, richer, even a little smarter but they'd still find me attractive because of my similarity to them in skin color/features.

I think looks matter, but maybe not the way people think. If you're decent looking, you will attract other people, but that attraction still has a lot to do with things out of your control (skin color, height). If I don't meet a girl who dislikes short men, I meet a girl who dislikes black men.

Now, this is the part where people say "if you just work on yourself, they'll be willing to overlook it". The very notion, the very FACT that you have to compensate for not being her "type" by bringing something else to the table, inherently proves that looks matter for both genders. Otherwise, your league or, rather, your selection pool is limited to your looks and how well you match another person's "type". Looks matter, but not in the way people might think.
