/trv/ is about the most mature board there is on 4chan. You can try to get ideas from it and get inspired to travel and get new experiences.

You have to approach each board with a different sort of perceptual strategy, a different lens, if you want to get something positive out of it. You will have to consciously tune out the bullshit.

People are actually less likely to get into pointless shitfests here than probably any other board unless you start a thread about what fantasy literature qualifies as good. This board can refresh your faith in humanity because you'll see thoughtful discussion where you never expect it, and /tg/ occasionally GETS SHIT DONE. Not so much anymore, but it still actually creates shit like custom RPGs. You do very much need to be wary of the, "Stop liking what I don't like!" attitude.

I like this board because it clearly illustrates that if you have a community, you have a community, and that's all that matters. Meaning you may be extremely interested in a subject that very few people care about, but as long as you do have those few people you can have a blast. There are quest threads that have only 3 participants that have been running for more than fifty chapters, and people generally don't shitpost. Try to start a thread and you may bomb, but who gives a shit? You can try again and find something others like.

Science is an existential hole where screechy academics holler unprovable hypotheses at each other and shit on you if you ask a question they don't consider hard enough. I've never seen anything good about this board, other than that they will sometimes help you puzzle out an answer to a complex question, all the while deriding your worth as a person.

I agree with your statement but I don't have many friends that are interested in self development. I don't mind but I really like to talk to other people about things that I'm trying to improve on and 4chan is the only place where I can discuss things in a way that people aren't worried about their online reputation so they just say what they think, and I find honesty very valuable. I'm willing to sacrifice some of this honesty for self development but I'm not sure what sites will help me and I can discuss on. I've been looking a Qoura and Reddit a bit but I can't find the right subgroup to be a part of. If anyone has recommendations online or otherwise it would be greatly appreciated.

I've browsed a quarter of the board here extensively and been to all but maybe 5 enough to know what they're all about. frequenting /b/, /fit/, /fa/, /v/, /vg/, /r9k/ and more has taught me that there isn't really any difference in the boards because they're all hugbox vacuums where memes take precedence over facts. You're right about /tg/ though. I only went for the cyoa threads but they generally have better discussions and pump out content like a mf.
