Welcome to the NEET and Shut-in advice thread!
(Version 128; the final version, running since Oct. 31st, 2013)
Three years ago, almost to the day, the original NEET and Shut-in threads started on /adv/. In the 2.5 years that it ran. this thread, and the community based around it, touched and impacted many people's lives; some for the better.. and some for the worse. Regardless of the effect I think it's safe to say that those who were impacted learned a lot about themselves, other people and the world in general. These are life lessons that you will take with you for the rest of your life.
This is not a revival of the NEET and Shut-in Advice threads, but a remembrance to the good times, the bad times and everything in-between that happened within our community. If you were impacted in some way, and are still lurking around /adv/, then I would ask that you share your story in this thread as long as you feel comfortable doing so. I don't expect many people to post their stories but I would like to read how the community affected your life.
Feel free to stop by the IRC channel if you were apart of it in the past. There are a few of us still lurking around if you want to say hi and catch up, quite a few people, including myself, have done that just this week:
http://chat.mibbit.com/#[email protected]
We had something special here at one point... but it's over now and it's for the best that it is. But I'm glad it existed and while I learned some hard life lessons from it, I wouldn't take it back. I hope you all feel the same way.
I will try my best to keep this thread bumped as NEET/Shut-in threads don't last long here. I will also provide advice to anyone new who needs it. I survived five years of NEET life and now have an established career, I will try to impart some of my knowledge on to you to help you as best as I can.
Take care everyone; I hope you all find happiness someday.
I never liked the pastebin of the resources, I'm going old school with this:

Flase neets are the scum of the Earth.
Do you ever think about how much shitposting you've done on IRC?
I mean, you weren't as prolific as most of us but it's just something that crosses my mind when I think about the group, just how much garbage I've spewed in there.
It was all for fun and in the hopes of killing boredom but looking at it out of context makes me cringe.
Anyway, here's a bump in memory of the good and bad times we've had.
We all fucked up on life.

I saw the IRC channel as a free for all venting outlet. We all had a lot of stored up "shit" we had to get out.. some had more than others. A lot more. lol
>>17719688
We did. Remember the quote we had in the old OP, the second best time to turn your life around is right now. It's easier said than done and it could be a multi-year process with ups and down but I think those words still hold true.
You're an alright guy, Ten. I'd have a beer with you.
Cheers ten,your one cool dude.
I'll try to keep this bumped with relevant things.
For the people who used to use NEETorious there's a forum that sprouted up to take its place but it was never advertised in the threads:

I miss you NEETs :3
Happy NEETiversary!
..and Halloween of course too..

You aren't welcome here.

Find something that you are passionate about. Use it as a compass to keep you on track. Even if it's not your career, just something worth putting in the effort for.

Getting a job or going back to school are important but you will learn that learning how to communicate with every day people will be just as important. If you have been NEET for a few years your communication skills will have atrophied and they will need to be worked on. Try reading "How to Make Friends and Influence People", there's some decent advice in there regarding proper communication and it should help you as you make your sharp transition into normal life.

Continuing to bump with general life advice for recovering NEETs:
Don't assume people you communicate with are operating under the same moral constraints that you are. Every person you meet will have a different definition of what is right and what is wrong. This specifically goes for people you meet online where you can't easily pick up on their ulterior motives due to the physical disconnect with text only communication . Be careful who you place your trust in because trusting someone exposes you to severe damage if given to the wrong person or people.
Yeah...december is coming soon so there will be an influx of posters on here, thanks for keeping this alive.
Bumping
I blame the public education system.

I don't expect there to be any further NEET and Shut-in Advice threads after this unless someone decides to take the torch and isn't just looking to populate their discord channel. The time for this general has come and gone unfortunately.
