Sun Tsu, you'll find plenty by him. Compare him to a western general for your essay perhaps.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu is definitely recommended.

I'm sure much is common sense but much of it is wisdom that you could even apply to your daily life when dealing with others.

To be honest, I barely even know anything. It's good from what I know though.

On War by Clausewitz is another classic.
