Nutria. South American amphibious rodent that was imported to the US long ago to be bred for the fur trade, but eventually escaped and is now an invasive species.

They live in family burrows and come out at night to browse on grass and aquatic plants on the bank.

Very common throughout the south and a lot of places have programs in place to exterminate them.
