Sudden thought after succeeding in doing a commission of written smut, asking for thoughts or for how others who write commissions, after planning out the concept of a story, what kind of updates should be given? Consistent chronological chunks of the story, select pieces, or just give out the finished product for perusal once it's complete or near completion?

Probably overthinking this stuff, but it's a topic to discuss.

Hi guys, this is my first post ever here, but long (and classic) story short, somewhat of a not really known artist in other areas reaches that moment where he wants/must pursue more stable commission requests.

I'm still building some of the stuff i want to put as examples of my work (i love to adapt to cartoony fanart styles, but sometimes with oc's and my stuff i just go a little more detailed, anyway i'm still thinking of what's the best course of action. I'd like to make a whole bunch of quick 1$ sketches like pic related and some others i'll be dumping in my tumblr.

both. the $1 quickies are good for warmups and come handy when clients want 2 or more poses or different characters and can't decide on which angle would they like to render further.

and the fanart is for notoriety building, rule 34 sites and such, i'm writting down suggestions but can't compromise on those, depends on when i have time for that. today i think i'll do some teenage robot stuff cuz could be fun.

How often has someone commissioned a bit of artwork and the artist did something with the sketch/picture that wasn't in the original plans or slightly different from what you pictured, but you find it worth keeping, or possibly even better for the picture?

Seems to happen a decent amount for me, or maybe that's just the high of watch a commission start to take form.

Several times. It's nice. I find if you really want a really super specific pose or scene, it helps to do a quick doodle in MS Paint, otherwise you leave a certain amount of interpretation.

On a recent commission where I had my OC rimming a horse and the artist depiction was a lot better than I had in mind, with the girl smushing her cheek against that donut and licking it clean

They might have a hard time establishing a good deadline for themselves. They should have just ended it at "it'll take a week" so there's no room for uncertainty. A client should expect something within a reasonable time frame.

When is a good time from sending them refs and money to receive your sketch?

There's also that guy who takes donations on Patreon so he can do random commissions of his OCs.

It's kind of a sleazy move on paper, but yeah, as long as they aren't taking the money to do anything else, let people spend as they will I suppose. Technically they're the creator and the writer, so y'know.

Also, he does it primarily on furaffinity, and you know how those furries can get about certain characters. Thousand bucks for an adoptable and such.

Kind of. Battletoads is an infamously bullshit-hard NES game and thusly it's the board's go-to response when someone blindly asks for a source.
Boku no Pico is handled similarly when people ask for sauce right off the bat without using the built-in GIS/saucenao functions.

well i was calculating the slots i'd make available for the offer i mentioned back at >>1005383 and thought it would go well accordingly. this time is better explained and conditioned.

I also adjusted it to $2 to not make necessary the paypal fee and not ending up with less than a dollar or having to ask clients for marking it as a personal gift (but still, do that whenever possible)
