My commission sheet is more geared towards general audiences, but I have been branching out into NSFW material lately. Examples can be found on my dA and Tumblr of the same name.

As far as subjects go, I'm admittedly uncertain about drawing anything explicitly fetish-related yet. Still trying to grow out of the PORN BAD mindset that was shoved down my throat all my life. I'm also really finicky about drawing established characters I'm familiar with. All that said, I am a fan of weight gain (to a point)/chubby, muscle gals, futa (with balls), size play, tentacles, gay stuff, and light bondage. If anyone wants to know if I'll do anything specific, just ask! I don't bite or judge.

Get a site, like tumblr, to post your info and your art on. Pixiv too if you are okay doing underage art. Set up a paypal to take payments. Then set up a pricing system. Be reasonable about it. If your art is worth 20 bucks, charge 20 bucks if you want to actually get business. You can charge 60 out of principle, but don't complain when people aren't paying 60 dollars for 20 dollar art.

After that, get a lot of good example art out there so people know what to expect of you. Try to have a lot of variety. Back to what I said about underage, if you are willing to do it but have zero example pics, no one will know that so that is an entire market you miss out on. Same with everything.

Doing requests on 4chan is a good way to get your name out there, and a good way to get variety. Can also do streams on piczel/picarto. Request streams that you announce can pull in people and make fans.

I appreciate you touching on this anon. It really is something I should have clarified before, but I didn't want to make my initial post too long.

It's definitely a quirk that screws me over in the long-haul. It's just something that really gets my skin crawling sometimes. There ARE exceptions with characters that are pretty much one-dimensional puppets (the Mario princesses for example) or lack any sort of personality entirely, but for the most part it just feels like I'm violating someone I know. I don't have a very large knowledge-base of established characters though, and I am beginning to feel more comfortable with some characters that previously made me turn away immediately. That's why I said I was finicky instead of "I absolutely won't do it." When in doubt, it never hurts to ask.

If you don't want to draw anything, you don't have to. Perhaps over time you'll become more comfortable with it. I'm sure there are a lot of artists out there who started off only drawing their OCs and now wouldn't think twice about completing Princess Peach with a dick.

What I ask myself someone before I commission is:

There's a market for anything so I guess don't be afraid of defining your niche as long as you realise the more you're open to, the bigger your customer base.

A lot of artists don't want to add something they have no personal investment in to their online face, especially if they're an artist mostly known for original content, or the commission involves something they don't want to attract from other commissioners (because we all take the odd exception now and then). Plus when you're not invested its hard to get a result you're satisfied with, even if the commissioner is.

One customer asked me not to post something, because it was for a story that was unfinished and he wanted to post the pic at the same time as the story was completed.
That's fine, I can respect that.
But if you ask me not to post something just because you don't want to, then that's not going to fly.
If I invest a lot of my time into something and I like the end result, then I'm going to post it online.
I can say that the commissioner wants to stay anonymous.
But so far I haven't heard anyone say that they don't want their art posted online, other than the story guy.

When I make a commission I assume that the client allows me to display it in my gallery. But it did not publish the full resolution.

If the customer asks me specifically not display it in my galleries, I respect his decision and I do not.

Straightforward is pretty nice, removes decision making, but I've had the other side too where it's just "This character, kinda like this"

Usually turns into questions, because I don't know if it's not described much because they don't care or they're bad at describing, so either one is fine, I don't much mind either, but my advice would be if you want the artist to make decisions, make it clear you want them to make those decisions, it was several more emails before I ironed out what was intended on the vague one so I could confirm.

Pretty much this. I've had artists draw me entire image sets from just "Character X being a prostitute" with a sprinkling of a few main details I cared about. Because they were more than happy to actually come up with everything else on their own.

I've had other artists that seem to get really frustrated if I'm not SUPER specific about detail. They just seem to want to robot it out.

I've also had artists that enjoy getting a selection of ideas, like 3-4, and they get to pick one they like.

I've had other artists that get pissy and just want me to tell them one idea they can work on.

No, I don't think you have to cover every eventuality, but if you want to offer it, having an individual listing for everything you offer, with a price and example, makes your commission information look more professional and easier to read. If you wanted to cut it down and focus on a few, I recommend Sketch, Coloured Sketch, Lines and Coloured, Shaded Lines.
