Thread topic: Commissioners, do you often request similar things, or are you more eclectic with your subjects/fetishes? Artists, do you often get similar requests? If so, do you enjoy frequently drawing them or do you wish for more variety?
>>1202996 I paid for a few commission, always themed around whatever character I had on my mind at the time. And while I never regretted making them, I think I should have pooled all that spent money into a single artist and get enough stuff from him to make a game worthy of /weg/ with it
>>1203260 It's not that much 'quality vs quantity'. It's more 'saving up money to spend in bulk rather than spending what little I have for a temporary whim'.
Worst thing is, I'm pretty sure that if I indeed went the 'spend money to make a game' route, I could get most of it back rather easily after release with a patreon or something... Fuck me and my weak will
>>1202996 When you strip it down, a lot of my stuff is generally just pin-up or straight simple stuff, though I tend to go through a shuffling of "which character(s) do I want to see naked next" or "which act would I like to try next, with whom?" I try to mix things up with positions and such at least a little, so as not to constantly say that I just want X character naked in a POV missionary thing (though that is a number of my requests at this point still). I'm strictly pretty vanilla in tastes, so far pregnancy and gangbangs have been my strangest requests.
>>1203270 I've had the same sort of consideration before, using one artist I come back to a lot to make a game or something like that. Then I remember I don't know shit about coding or anything, the best I can do is write the smut. So a pipe dream it must forever remain.
>>1203336 I have the coding skill (and I make a living out of it) but I couldn't draw a triangle to save my life. If I could plan and budget ahead, I know I could make one... but I'm not good at managing myself
>>1203339 Probably a lot of factors. I think a chunk of it is probably how different she is from the supposed Disney template. She's forward, snarky, got a hip-emphasizing design.
Just my two cents on it, I could be completely off the mark.
>>1203342 Yeah, same, I'd probably find it hard to focus on it, and that's if I could make myself stick to a theme or idea to work on for a game. Best I'm doing right now is using one artist to slowly make a series of themed pictures for me, but it has nothing to do with a game, just a cute little side-project.
>>1203157 >>1202996 I get more Wilykit than I know what to do with lately I'm getting a lot of fetishy feet drawings, which I hope doesn't mess up my reputation of drawing a lot of NOT-fetishy feet things, but money's money. I think people just like a specialist so they know what they're getting still, wish I could get paid to do some robot or monster stuff once in a while
>>1202996 >Commissioners, do you often request similar things, or are you more eclectic with your subjects/fetishes? Yeah, generally the same thing cartoon MILFs and the odd trap. Makes it difficult after a while because so few characters means I generally just want a variety of artists.
While it's easy to find a MILF artist, trap ones seem rare. Not many artists seem to get the appeal, I think.
I'm a writer with a depraved mind. I can't draw for shit but I know I could write a damn good short story filled with smut. I've done it more times than I'd like to mention for myself. So I'm good at what I do and I'd like to make some side money from it.
I might even take a handful of commissions for free just for the references to get started.
Have any anons commissioned writers for their smut? If you haven't what would you request?
My speciality would be: - giantess / shrink - gender transformation - any BDSM - canon ships
>>1204142 Well, since you specialise in giantess stuff, I would like maybe a giantess and a boy, the giantess is 3 or 4 times bigger than him, so really big but not like "destroy the city" big, in a low-fantasy type world. They go on adventures that invariably lead to them fucking or her making him cum. Stuff like that.
>>1204158 Nothing too specific, I'd like her to be a gentle, nice, older sister kind of personality, if you know what I mean. I like the idea of her sucking his cock, how small it is compared to her lips, stuff like that.
>>1204167 Sounds easy enough. i would charge per scene, or in scene bundles, so that for a full completed story you'd be paying quite a lot, seeing as the difference between a scene without a well thought out ending is very different from the other. You could essentially commission your own series if you continued to pay scene by scene.
>>1204185 I'd probably charge one pound (surprise I'm English) per minute of reading time. So if it takes a normal reading pace of ten minutes to red it'd cost ten pound. Which considering how long ten minutes of writing is that's incredibly fair.
>>1203157 I should probably get around to making a new sheet pr. soon. Oh well.
Anyway, I'm super grateful to everyone from these threads who's been throwing money at me, but does anyone have any advice on other good places to try and shill yourself? I'm not making quite as much dosh as I'd like, and with my current level of free time I think it would be more practical to get more clients rather than raise prices.
>>1205443 Can't say I have much experience with either, but I'd love to have a little more variation in my portfolio. I'm not exactly drowning in commissions atm, so I'd be happy to draw you a few sketches pro bono so you can see if I'm worth your money. >>1205249
I'm a writer and just take my word for it that I have a fair amount of experience. I would love to start a web-comic with an artist anon: I can write whilst you do the art: I imagine the larger story would be a collaborative effort.
My interests for a web comic:
>Gender TF >Giantess / Mini-GTS >Humiliation based TF's
There's plenty more kinks but those are my mains.
So the story, here's a few ideas: bare in mind writing good characters and worlds is my speciality:
>A mystery author travels to the remote American town of Sunset to investigate the many urban legends attributed to the town. As his investigation deepens, he finds himself under-going unusual changes that threaten to throw his investigation off course.
This would be like Twin Peaks but with /d/ orientated smut. If anons are interested but would want to receive payment for their efforts instead of straightforward collaboration I'd be open to an offer for (webcomic panel x cost)
Honestly though, I've never heard of an artist being asked if they would draw a reference sheet and saying no. If you like someone's style and they don't explicitly have reference sheets listed as an option, try contacting them.
>>1207102 It's pretty fucking hard to have a long-lasting arc in an adult story/comic because most viewers will pay attention for 2-15min it takes for them to get off. And I wrote fapfiction for a while.
>>1207844 My first commission from here was for captions, at least initially, but it ended up turning into short smut stories based on the pictures the guy provided me. Cute art. First time trying to write Bad End stuff, though. Commissioner seemed pleased, though.
>>1208787 I wish I could pay money for captions to be great instead of suck. It's weird being a fan of something that is literally never done right, so I'm only fond of the imaginary theoretical good version.
>>1209176 I'd be interested, but as I mentioned what was initially going to be captions became separate short stories/scenes. I've actually not made captions before, certainly not to the edit-and-insert levels you see in, say, the JOI threads that cropped up around here often a while back. They'd probably be more like >>1208487 in appearance.
>>1209210 That's cool, well-written beats well-presented in my book. It could even just be sent as a text file or something, I wouldn't mind that. Are there any things you particularly like to do or things you don't want to do? I have some fetishes that some people don't like doing some times. Not scat or anything gross, really. But just, odd.
>>1209233 Hmm. Well, let's see. When it comes to writing stuff, I'm more inclined towards lighthearted and simpler stuff. Vanilla's always nice, incest is fun, /ss/ could be nice (as could the other end of that spectrum), monster-girls are something I've been doing writing on for a while...most of the simpler stuff is something I could probably do, or at least worth a shot with me. Besides incest I think impregnation/pregnant smut is my most out-there personal preference.
For odder stuff...well, I'm not a fan of nonconsensual sort of stuff, but it's something I can attempt (it's not like those Bad End stories were exactly consent), futas are something worth practicing on...I don't really think I could do yaoi all that much, though I did do some futa-on-male on a commission story once. Yuri I've done a little with. Cuck sort of stuff...could maybe do. Interracial...possibly, though I don't think I'd want to use more...colorful terms involved. Mind control, another maybe.
No gore stuff or bodily functions like you mentioned, most other things are possibly negotiable, can't really know until discussed, I'd say, especially if it's just something short and simple you're after.
>>1209680 Well, I was thinking I'd draw a sketch of the specific character/situation they were looking for so I could save a little time if they decided I was worth their money and wanted to commission me.
>>1209684 Got anything in particular you'd like to see?
>>1209930 Also, im not really sure you can unless you are working in a line layer which i rarely use. But then again im no Sai master. >>1209936 Some like ink work as i do. Im also alot better at inking then paining. And i always use line work when im painting anyways to help. But ya, i suck at painting.
>>1203157 Hi everybody i open 3 color sketch slots ($25 for 1 character, 40 per two) i can draw pretty anything without restrictions (except guro) if any is interested send me an email to: [email protected] also post some recent work samples
I can see why some artists hate paheal >see artstyle i like >click on picture to see source >asshole puts gehentai or someshit like gelbooru as source >have to play 20 questions following links to finally find the artist name because people were too lazy to just posts artist name >in all the art catalog sites picture was hosted on the artist already had a tag that would have taken two seconds to include that picture into
Then there is the fuckers who do a tiny edit of a picture then make their own fucking tag that is just shitty edits but dont credit the actual source.
I managed to commission a guy off pixiv once but it was a long ass fucking search for him because half his stuff wasnt sourced properly
>>1210261 well paheal isn't exactly meant to be a normal art site, more of a repository i recently discovered some other interesting sites for this kind of thing, they often seem to have a bunch of shit pulled straight off of 4chan archives, what with even having WIPs
>>1210796 you're kind of all over the place in terms of your accuracy in understanding the situation what do you mean by hard? i mean yeah it's hard work, but likelihood of success is just kind of luck, just like anything
>>1211077 >It depends on your living expenses. If you live in an expensive American city, you're gonna have a much harder time making ends meet compared to someone who lives in Indonesia. Are you in 1990? In year 2017, costs of living are the same around the world. A flat in a skyscraper in Shanghai costs the same as a flat in a skyscraper in New York.
I'm talking about living in a standard flat (or room) in a normal small city (not favela) with fast Internet and McDonald's.
>so far making 4-500 bucks a month So Jobseeker's Allowance. That's about the cost of thrifty living everywhere, except perhaps Norway and Japan. Good for a start! Thank you.
>>1211400 >Are you in 1990? In year 2017, costs of living are the same around the world. That's such a retarded statement, I can't even comprehend how did you even get to this point Without even having to talk about different countries, living in any of the coasts of the US is infinitely more expensive than living in the Midwest (or pretty much anywhere else)
>>1211400 I think you might be surprised if you looked up what things actually cost in various countries. For example, moving from Scandinavia to eastern Europe would reduce someone's living expenses by half.
>>1210976 it sort of is. if the mcdonald's is within walking distance, you're good. if you have to drive, you're fucked. >>1211404 >>1211445 not to mention if youre indonesian taking commissions from americans, the money'll be worth more converted into yours. of course making ends meet means you're still living in destitution by american standards. plus horrible government, etc
>>1211404 >Living in any of the coasts of the US is infinitely more expensive than living in the Midwest. 1. I said "fast Internet". I'm pretty sure you don't have that in "the Midwest" (whatever "the Midwest" is). 2. That's like comparing living in urban China against living on Mongolian steppe. Irrelevant. I clearly talk about developed places. 3. My mental image of "a U.S. Midwestern city" is a falling apart cowboy town in the middle of nowhere. I can't name even one U.S. Midwestern city. 4. I said "not favela". So no Detroit please.
>That's such a retarded statement, I can't even comprehend how did you even get to this point. 5. That's how.
>>1211492 6. I could understand living far from McDonald's if you were in Africa. But someone who doesn't need a visa to live LEGALLY near McDonald's AND nonetheless chooses to live far from one is plain stupid.
>Of course making ends meet [in Indonesia] means you're still living in destitution by American standards. 7. That's why I said "a standard flat" and "in a normal city" and "with fast Internet and McDonald's". See §1-4.
>The money'll be worth more converted into [Indonesian money]. 8. Not if you need to order most things online from America because your shitty local shops sell only shitty things.
>>1211445 >Moving from Scandinavia to eastern Europe would reduce someone's living expenses by half. 9. Didn't I mention Norway already? Scandinavia and Japan are anomalies on the world map. You can reduce your living expenses even further if you move from Antarctica... and from the Moon. 10. "By half" – that's about the biggest spread you're going to experience by moving from country to country today. 11. "By half" is not a different order of magnitude.
>>1210796 I dont just draw porn, i dont alot of character artwork overall. That would be my dreamjob, to be a character designer for a film or video game.
And well, i make somewhere between 300$ to 500$ per month. But i think i should say that i have to work my ass off to get the amounts i just mentioned. Even yesterday i was drawing for 12 hours, so ya. Although,i do also sell my artwork on t-shirts and other things on TeePublic and RedBubble and i used to make up to 200$+ a month just on that. But after a large crackdown of false DMC claims i had to change how my artwork is tagged and thus i would be lucky to make 50$ a month selling that stuff now :/
I like what i do but i don't get alot of money and i even have to be a social assistance just to be able to feed myself.
>>1211833 dmc claims on t-shirts? and FALSE ones at that? i've never heard of such a thing. everywhere you look online there's unlicensed t-shirts by the boatload. every youtuber has a mario or zelda shirt or something
>>1211839 They were false since all of my t-shirts do in fact fall under fair use, yet Bethesda and HBO think differently. And even to this day i still got alot of problem due to those sites i mentioned removing my work due to dmc claims.
This one in particular gets removed alot and i think only one site has not removed it :/ It sucks since i personally think this is one of my best designs.
>>1211825 >Twice $butt You forgot that I'm not talking about becoming a millionnaire, I'm talking about surviving. If "$butt" is barely enough to not starve, "twice $butt" will be more than enough. It's extremely good to know that you can survive without employment.
I have a few questions for the artists here that already do commissions:
>What website do you use to receive payment for your work? Paypal? And how do you maintain your privacy in the transaction? >Do you use your own personal email address or create a new isolated address solely for art business? >What is your payment method? Payment beforehand, after the piece is done for delivery, half up front, etc. >How did you establish your prices? Just what felt fair or you went by other artists' prices to evaluate your own? >How harder it is to charge in euros compared to USD?
I'm asking for a friend and totally not because I'd like to make money but don't know tits from ass in internet transactions.
>I use paypal but i have taken E-Bank transfers in the past. >I have used the same email for many years and it is my personal/work email >I prefer to get the full payment upfront if it is below 50$, above that, i dont mine doing half up font and half when done. >I've messed around with my prices for some time and i still feel like im underselling myself, but i kind of have to since if i charged just minimum wage, people would not hire me. >I mostly charge in USD since almost all of my clients come form the USA. And it's nice for me since i live in Canada C:
>>1212945 >What website do you use to receive payment for your work? Paypal? And how do you maintain your privacy in the transaction? PayPal. My account gives no hint to my identity. >Do you use your own personal email address or create a new isolated address solely for art business? My email was set up to keep my identity protected. >What is your payment method? Payment beforehand, after the piece is done for delivery, half up front, etc. I take payment only when the piece is completed. That way I can take as much time as I need. >How did you establish your prices? Just what felt fair or you went by other artists' prices to evaluate your own? Partly both. I take commissions to get better at making art and gauge how much it's worth. >How harder it is to charge in euros compared to USD? PayPal takes care of that for both me and the customer
>What website do you use to receive payment for your work? Paypal? And how do you maintain your privacy in the transaction? Paypal. I've set up a business account, and while my clients get to know the name of the business account, I don't believe my personal information is viewable. If you're really worried, you can set up a personal account under a fake name and transfer it to a personal account in your real name.
>Do you use your own personal email address or create a new isolated address solely for art business? New one. I'm not particularly worried about people knowing my name, but I'd have a hard time organizing it if it were the same account.
>What is your payment method? Payment beforehand, after the piece is done for delivery, half up front, etc. I prefer payment up front, but usually I get paid half when the client okays the sketch and half when the final piece is finished.
>How did you establish your prices? Just what felt fair or you went by other artists' prices to evaluate your own? For starting price, I posted a few examples of my art and asked people in this thread what they'd charge for it. After that, though, I've been setting prices around having a certain number of hours working on commissions every month - if I don't get enough commissions, I lower prices, if I get more than I really have time for, l raise prices.
>>1203963 well montages are great but it would really have to be a lot lewder than that.
but on a more general note to all: I just want to say you are all making VERY NICE PORNOGRAPHY, I just came into some money and I'm forced into difficult choices when it comes to feeding my degenerate vice. this general seems to be a better place to search for commissionees than others I've tried.
>>1213010 >>1213229 >>1213325 You know what, maybe I won't do this after all. Thanks for all the info, but it just seems way more trouble and potential mishaps than I'm willing to risk for the odd $20 a month I'd get selling my shitty art. Plus I'm not really cut out for commissioned work, I get distracted and shift focus too easily, don't like drawing characters I don't personally like and tend to just bail on things I lose interest in.
I don't really have any outlandish tastes or anything but a lot of my favorite characters are either a bit more obscure, from older games or not as popular so they don't get as much fan art as more mainstream ones
>>1214308 man I hear that. I love doing obscure fanart. someone in a thread requested fuckin Bea from Mighty Max a wee while back. I enjoyed the hell out of doing that, and I wasn't even being paid. Didn't hurt that I came up with a good joke.
>>1214807 True, though I admit there's plenty of popular characters I've commissioned pieces of in spite of that. There's something satisfying about getting a good pic and knowing it exists cause of you working with the artist.
>>1203823 >>1206054 >>1215483 Why do people post only SFW art on a board filled with dickgirls, goblins, slave training, monsterfucking et al?
Maybe I'm alone in this thought process, but I wanna see how many people agree. Should artists try to include NSFW art in their promo? I think it's a better representation of their work, at least here.
>>1210796 I have a full time job so it helps me get by, im not super famous and even if i were im not sure if id want to quit unless i was getting emails out the ass and people paying me 250$ for a pinup
Well, as a potential commissioner It would make me feel more at ease to see how they actually draw sexy bits. Someone who can do a decent pin up might now be able to handle more involved sexual acts as well
So I've been thinking about starting to do commissions recently, but i don't really know where to start or what my prices should be, so i figured i'd ask you guys for advice.
I've put together a basic commission sheet, i'd like to know what you think about it, are the prices right for the level of quality of my drawings ? How much would you pay for something like one of the exemples pics ?
>>1216308 looks good to me, don't forget to finish off the arm givin' the ol' clit a pinkying.. if the wrist wasn't turned like that you could get away with the whole arm being behind her body, but if it's turned in that direction you should have at least a glimpse of the arm in between her hand and boob also don't forget to enlarge her left hand because of perspective. other than that, and you mentioned redoing the elf because yeah she looks weirdly bored, it's fine.
>>1216318 I keep a massive folder of poses and anatomy details for references. I think it's several gigs now. Some displays of acrobatics I see and I KNOW I want one of my waifus in there. >>1216285 Have you considered writing the backstory to a scene? It may move your investment on the subject.
well that's what I mean generally. I didn't mean to imply that I want to adapt a scene from the show/game/whatever so much as I wanted all the events to be in character or setting appropriate. I.E Don't have a character get fucked by tentacles if it doesn't make sense for that world, don't have characters act OOC and act like turbo sluts if it's too huge a departure from their personality. Things like that.
>>1216824 >>1203543 I have at least three people who come to me every few months like "draw me some wilykit" and sometimes they have only the vaguest idea of what she should be doing and I draw them some fuckin wilykit
>>1216308 >>1216344 >>1216372 Just one little thing as well. The grey chick's right shoulder should be slightly "further back" as well. Hard to describe, but as it stands, the collarbone area sort of is too wide for the perspective you've got. I did a quick edit on my phone to illustrate. Hope that helps
>>1217028 Downloaded, I'll give it a lookover sometime. Not sure how well it works the visual aspect and looks like anything that involves stats like a trainer game wouldn't work, but it looks like it might be good for some CYOA style smut-writing.
>>1218001 it really doesn't. it looks like a comic from the late 90s early 00s in america. anime doesnt usually use narrow vertical oval eyes or arms that terminate into simple geometric shapes. also 'chibi' never has thin limbs like that.
