To answer the question, as (a shoddy writer that wishes he could actually pump content in any sort of cohesive rhythm so, not really) an artist, nothing so far

As a commissioner, some of my favorite pieces came from collaborating with people from here on discord

I've once spoken with an artist I'm in regular contact about doing what would amount to an art trade, or rather working together to put picture content to go along with smut stories I write, but nothing has come of it, really.

It would be less a trade or collaboration and more of me paying to have illustrations for some written work of mine, really.

Look at the purple haired girl. Before you pull out the "but it's supposed to be super deformed!", even art like that has some proportions to it. You gotta know the rules so you can break them, right? The girl's legs are incredibly stubby while her torso is super large, that's basic stuff down there

You might not even know what that is, so google it. Basically, he's using colors poorly, ending up using more colors than needed while still not giving it the proper "shading" it deserved

That also leads into weird colors that you can't tell apart. Look at the two gay dudes in the middle. Their faces look weird and when they are zoomed out, you can't even tell there are different colors in their faces

These also just look straight up bad and what made me call it a pixel brush. The super strict "lineart" is awful and shoddy curves to lines making them look blobby when you should strive to make them look sharp

tl;dr if you wanna whiteknight bad shit just go to dA, maybe a landwhale will give you attention

that's not even what dithering typically means. there's not a single bit of spotting or checking
however the part about some colors being too similar is both accurate and almost certainly intentional (good for art, not good for intentionally pixely pixel art)

You mentioned "not good for intentionally pixely pixel art", and I think that's the issue with that guy's sprites and what triggered him, because they seem like someone tried to apply normal art concepts to pixel art (aside from the problems with perspective and lines, of course)

I know an artist on DA who does a lot of boxing art I like. I randomly wrote up quick fan story to go with some of his scenes, and he's working on one of my nearly finished novel's characters. They take me a day, maybe two to write, so after some prodding by other fans in the comments, I've started writing short scenes for each of his major pics

There shouldn't be a discount on that because 90% of the time we still have to draw the entire "figure" or "gesture" you know? If we don't it could end up with some wonky ass bad positioning on the limbs and weird anatomy that doesn't lead anywhere. It's not out of spite or greed, it's just really hard to draw half-characters without doing the entire guideline

Yeah the idea is you'll still draw the body and pose, even if you only use 20% of the body in the shot because you want it to look good preferbly.

I mean in the picture you used You'd still need to draw the girls torso to know how it curves into the legs and rear, and probably even place her head so you can tell where the hair is.

Most of the time, someone replies saying "I'll try it" and then a link to their sheet which has no comparable examples.

If someone hails for alternatively themed content it should go one of two ways. Either the responding artist has existing content of the subject where the commissioner can gauge whether if it is to their liking or that the artist doesn't have any sample material and should then provide a free sketch with enough to it to show off what is wanted by the commissioner, no more, no less. Wanting more polish than a clean sketch is a no-no and expecting to be paid for said sketch is a no-no.

Here's a question for commissioners who go to multiple artists on a semi-regular basis, do you ever contact multiple artists and give them the same picture idea, just to see how each one handles it differently?
