Light can kill people and specify the method of death, which lets Light control people to an extent, and it's not too far of a stretch in logic.

Light also has the ability to do the eyes deal, which lets him see a person's remaining life span, and this ability is related to death.


An influence spell that only gives a person false sight and does nothing else, is not related to death. It's an ability that doesn't belong in the Death Note.

I think of the first two movies as a single movie in two parts. The first one doesn't have a resolution, really; it's all resolved in the second movie, and that resolution is very satisfying indeed.

In general, the Japanese live action movies are actually quite clever and they really take advantage of the Death Note's mechanics in a way that not even the original anime/manga did. Also the ending doesn't suck ass.
