How does /a/ do it? Even with all it's flaws it still manages to maintain a level of quality far above the other media boards and a resistance to shitty external board culture thats not present anywhere else.

I'm asking because my home board has been dying for years now and I feel like I have to try and save it since apparently our mods don't give a fuck like yours do.
>>
Fuck off already.

The problem is, OP, that you probably aren't seeing all the posts. If you are just viewing /a/ through the /a/ board, you don't see the green posts, the posts with letters in their ids, or anything numberless. Together, those make up about 40-70 percent of /a/, depending on the day. So conversation will appear disjointed and spastic, because you won't be getting the full picture.

I actually just flipped over to the /a/ interface to make this post, and it's pretty funny how unintelligible /a/ is like this.

I kind of blame /tv/ for accelerating my board's decay

Report people when they break the rules and tell them to get bent when they talk like a dipshit. It's all that can be done.
>>
/a/ is trash and full of ironic weebs normalfags since anime is now getting popular with the ''haha us nerd right?'' audience.
>>
>>160930099
This board has been shit for quite a while and is getting worse by the day. Case in point, this thread.
>>
>>160928267
Threads like these are proof as to why /a/ needs self-moderation. Unfortunately, judging from the content of that thread, many people are incapable of doing such a thing. Please remember to keep the garbage in check.
>>
>>160930099
kys
>>
>>160930547
Self-moderation cannot work without real moderation. The two must operate in tandem.
If there are no mods to enforce the rules, the anons who tell you to fuck off are just impotent fools.
>>
>>160930196
/mu/ has always been shitposty and full of normalfags because it's a normalfag hobby. I wish there was a board for only Japanese music.
>>
>>160930664
>kys
You are part of the problem, faggot.
>>
Elitism, a certain mix of 4chan brand racism, exclusivity and misantrophy.
>>
So, before this thread gets pruned or deleted, what does /a/ think of buttfaced detective brat saving the day?
>>
>>160930733
And not a single bad thing about it. Keeping shit out so the gold stays in.

Kill yourself.
>>
>>160930733
Yeah, it sure works in all those generals that are up right now.
>>
>>160930733
You forgot:
/a/ was a mod favorite for the longest time. It has had better moderation than pretty much every other board.
>>
What a dumb pathetic circlejerk thread for fake elitists pretending that they're oldfags who knew better.
>>
>>160930664
/a/ is the board where I see people using the word ''kys'' the most.
>>
>>160930881
What a stupid post by a newfag who's pretending to be an oldfag so he can criticize other oldfags or pretend oldfags because nobody likes even on an anonymous board.
>>
>>160930099
/a/ isn't even that good these days, I swear /pol/ is seeping in every chance it gets.
>>
>>160930897
That's because /a/nons need the most convincing to kill themselves.
>>
>>160930829
They're self contained cesspools and more often than not the shitposters within them are reviled.
Case in point: Tokyo Ghouls
The only true cancerous generals are the homofag generals (SnK and everything else that attracts the tumblr queer crowd) and immortal pripara generals.
>>
>>160930927
>implying
I already know my worth, and it's not much.
>>
>>160930693
This.
>>
>>160930099

Because /a/ unlike other boards don't spoonfeed newfags. In OPT people have been banned for providing sauce to sauce fags.

Also, there are some users who still actually use the sage option. Most boards stoped using it when it was not longer visible if you saged a thread.

If they can't "Sage goes into all fields" they don't do it.

The ones where they talk a little bit about the jobs of the voice actresses are semi-useful.

I don't have a problem with them, they are just there, if they were moved to /jp/ there would be no difference in the overall board

To attract newfags, Japan must produce interesting anime shows that aren't too cookie-cutter.

>>
>>160931570
/mu/ problem is that it didn't had the critical mass to repel the shit, it was too small and since music is more mainstream than anime more newfags can go there and mix in some way, while /a/ is larger, has a stronger culture and it's a niche interest in a large part of the world, so /a/ is better prepared than most boards to deal with outside intervention

I'm not going to say it was significantly better before, but occasionally shitposting could land you a nice ban under the pretext of a house rules.
Problem is I'm not sure any mod has any idea what the fuck /a/ used to be or what quality even means so it's probably better they're not doing anything knowing they might do more damage than good.

I'd much rather have "tryhards" than people who unironically spout garbage like cuck, kek, af, lit, emoticons, *actions* and other garbage I see every day. The people who complain about being told to lurk more or fuck off when they make cancerous posts are worse than anything else. Calling people "tryhards" or "elitist" is just a convenient deflection that newfags use in order to avoid facing the fact that THEY are the ones who need to learn to fit in.

I really love our general friends.
>>
>>160932799
Not *that* rare - but not common, either. It shouldn't be something that has the possibility of happening. Eighteen HOURS without moderation? What else could happen in that time?
>>
>>160932755
What bothers me more than anything else is that the thread was just a blatant cry for recommendations. I've seen far too many rec threads get a free pass because they were cloaked in a bunch of other bullshit to disguise their attempt at getting recommendations. It's like the more the mods/jannies have to read the less chance there is of garbage getting deleted.
>>
>>160932789
It'd be much better if you just hopped on IRC and nagged the admins to do their fucking jobs.
Not that that would work any better, but it's got higher chances of being noticed.
>>
>>160932789
>shit thread general
That would be funny and useful.
If the mods don't delete threads we might as well organize, report and spam the fags to hell and back.
>>
>>160932891
>What else could happen in that time?
Everything, basically. I think the /a/ moderation team has been cut to about 25-50% of its moot-time size. Mods from other boards are helping out, sometimes, but being non-dedicated, they have no idea what breaks the rules and why.

The irony in that image, I doubt anyone really gave him shit for that either.
>>
>>160932879
I like Berserk and JoJo but the "ironic weeb" normalfag fans who shit on every other anime are irritating.
>>
>>160932894
Yeah, that bothered me as well, but it's just so bizarre that they ignored all reports. When someone's posting "lol holohoax supporters are at it again" or whatever, you have to understand that *something* is going wrong in that thread.
>>
I reckon the mods (as shit as they are) can occasionally get swamped in reports so they just don't give a damn.
I'm not sure how it works but I don't think reports have a priority system. Unless you report for illegal content which is almost instantly checked.
If rule violation got a per-report score and stuff was organized on a priority list, I imagine workload would be reduced for them (atleast for OPs) and that would actually make them more prone to doing their jobs.
>>
I love how the people in this thread are cancer. Mods do good work, other boards are shit compared to /a/ imo. Too bad people are too autistic to actually discuss anything and screech instead. Just report the thread and move on instead of bumping it you dumb newfag cancerous shits.

I honestly recall that someone said that that was the case, many years back. I thought that it was true. Are you suggesting that it's not?

The thread is on page 10 you retarded fuck.

why do we hate generals and embrace them at the same time

See you next time, anons.

Like I said, I don't know. But I remember getting a tempban for reporting for illegal instead of rule violation before, and that ban was almost 30 minutes later so what I'm thinking is:
1. There's very few illegal content reports which makes going through them easier
2. There's a way to find them through the report list which would explain the fast response
3. They're filed separately and thus organized by priority (obviously you get the CP out before the shitposting)
If you could report for a specific rule rather than "breaking rules in general" then that might help things go through easier. Tons of people misuse the report system and I can imagine sifting through every report to see if it's correct or not is annoying, especially when you don't even know what rule is being broken. It's not a big hassle individually but you have to go through a couple hundred of these a day and that can take a toll on your motivation.

Agreed. Moot refused that idea, though, if you recall. Fucking asshole.

That's a long time. When mods are active, they react to reports within 5 minutes.
>>
Hiro please make me mod.

Only mods that ever cared about this place was modcat or kinomod
>>
>>160933389
Yeah well, for all the fun that we had with him he didn't make the smartest choices.

>>160933399
Sorry, I meant to contrast that with the time it takes to respond to a rule violation report. Those are much slower even when they're active.
>>
>>160933498
Sadly, both were fired.
>>
Why don't you faggots go complain on IRC?
>>
>>160933519
>I meant to contrast that with the time it takes to respond to a rule violation report.
I've entered threads and started reporting, and posts started disappearing as I was still working on reporting.
When mods are on, they are fast. The problem is, they spend most of their time browsing /a/ and just having fun. No one wants to work all day for no pay. That's why we need more mods.
>>
>>160933569
Do you really think that works?
>>
>>160933552
I though kinomod was still a mod. What happend?
>>
>>160933579
It might just be me then, but I still feel the report system should be expanded to allow for specific reports. I've reported countless rec threads and 3x3s and they've been up hours after that. Is the no rec rule still a thing?
>>
>>160933641
another dude using his name iirc
>>
>>160933645
The rules still apply. Mods are just not reliable.
I have recently gone over to reporting posts that articulate everything wrong with the OP. These posts are in violation of the rules (/a/1) so I'm not abusing the report system (and thus safe from being banned). The posts may get deleted. But I think there's a better chance that a retard crossboarder mod gets the message when it's pushed into his face like that.
>>
>>160933635
Better than making a shitty meta thread.
>>
>>160933721
I'll try doing that from now on then. Cheers.
>>
>>160933359
This is funny. I've "misused" the illegal content feature plenty of times in the past and not only was I not punished, but the posts I reported got deleted very quickly. It just goes to show how inconsistent things can be. The posts in question weren't even illegal, they were just stupid memes, rec/request threads and other garbage. It's baffling that I got off without even a warning.

>>160933645
>I still feel the report system should be expanded to allow for specific reports.
Mods have given reasoning for not implementing this but you'll have to search the /q/ archives, as I don't remember what they said off-hand.
