Both started making comfy series with darker elements before going full on horror as seen by the latest HxH chapter and the latest Twin Peaks episode. Both have absolute control over their art now and give no fucks about the fan reactions. Twin Peaks had a 25 year hiatus while HxH has regularly scheduled hiatuses. Both continue to innovate and outplay their other competitors in their respective mediums.

I've never seen Hunter x Hunter. I might watch this one since I hear it's good. What kind of anime am I in for? Here is what I think happens.

There's a guy named Hunter, or possibly he is a hunter, some sort of mercenary for hire who hunts aliens or something. I'm thinking like Metroid so samus aron of some kind, some guy who hunts down bad guys/monsters. Then there's another Hunter, who only hunts hunters. He's like a bounty hunter chasing the first hunter guy. The entire anime is about Hunter1 constantly being on the run from Hunter2, while also trying to support himself by hunting down wild monsters that plague villages/planets.

Am I close? I'm looking for an anime like this

I don't care about all these new characters at all and I never cared about Kurapika.

The only characters so far with potential are the king and the psycho prince but it remains to be seen. This just isn't gripping me at all and it could be literal years until the characters I care about are even seen again, and that's just the ones that are confirmed for being actually on the boat. It's a show about two little gay boys going on an adventure to find one little gay boy's dad. The gay boy's dad is a hunter, and the gay boy is hunting for his dad, so he's a hunter hunter.
It's a show about the detours, like trying to raise money to win an auction, playing a video game, and helping deal with an ant infestation.
Overall, it's a pretty cute show. I'd recommend it if you just want to watch anime to unwind. It's also a really good gateway if you want to get your kids into anime.

Kurapika only became a Zodiac and joined the expedition because Mizaistom told him there were scarlet eyes involved and everything is centered around that currently. The people who actually have an interest in the Dark Continent aren't directly involved with the succession war beyond (hehe) being bodyguards. The king clearly doesn't give a shit about the voyage actually succeeding, he just wants to find his successor and also fund Beyond's voyage so he can become a historical figure remembered for centuries as being the king who conquered the new world. Undoubtedly a lot of fuck ups will occur before they reach the fake continent, but after that they're taking some time to recuperate and set up a relay point with Knov's hatsu before the actual voyage begins so there's plenty of time to reprepare and patch up anything that's fucked up in the first stretch of the voyage.
