Using the movies to replace DB Super eps 3-14 (Battle of Gods) and eps 19-27 (Resurrection F) works super well. There's no major inconsistencies or repetition and the inbetween episodes lead into the films down to the opening scene. It is the superior way to experience Super for sure.

What's weird is DBZ Kai Buu saga kept the villains in hell watching SSJ3 Goku fight Kid Buu. I think they tweaked the dialog a little so that it would lead into Super more naturally though. (Interesting is that witnessing Buu seems to humble Cell, which would lead to him being pacified and reincarnated like souls in hell are supposed to be, whereas Freeza just gets more upset by the fight, which would lead to Yemma putting him in the Caccoon after his stay in HFIL fails to produce results. It's a neat little implication.)

For the longest Dragonball Z was my youth. It was the show that you could talk about with pretty much any other guy in school because you knew they were watching despite age or background. When it ended everyone always wanted more. In came GT and it was utter and complete shit. It was terrible and almost universally scorned. Super is far closer in spirit to a successor than GT could ever hope to be.

Even with all the rehashes and "homages" they have some really good moments an characters in this series and it's like a never ending nostalgia trip. Zamasu, Gowasu, Black, Beerus, Hit, Whis, Champa, Zeno, Grand Priest, on and on there characters who feel like Dragonball in their own right and have marked a stake in the franchise. If toei put some effort into animating the fights I would have no qualms even with some of the plot points.

as this became more about fighting and less about the adventure of finding dragonballs and wishing for inane wishes like panties; she became less and less relevant.

Once Vegeta put an alien abomination of genetics in her uterus she faded to irrelevancy forever.

Ressurrection of F was one of the worst Dragonball movies.

The entire premise of the movie is that Freeza is back for revenge, not a bad one. He's going to become as powerful as Goku and Vegeta now. And he does so by training for six months.

Six months training makes him stronger than the Andriods, Cell, Fat Buu, Kid Buu, Super Buu with everyone Absorbed and Vegito. There are some asspulls in DB, but this goes too far. There are other more plausible ways for Freeza to get that power. Six months of training is not enough.

But let's say we accept that. Freeza attacks Earth. The defenders of Earth are Roshi, Tien, Krillin, Piccolo, and a depowered Gohan. Gohan was able to use Mystic against Beerus a couple months ago but now he's a complete shitter. The most powerful people on earth are 18, Fat Buu, and Gotenks. None of them show up to this fight. They're fine with Roshi and Tien protecting the earth from Freeza.

Okay let's buy this bullshit too. Freeza's next form is just a gold recolor? Okay. Goku and Vegeta can use god powers now without the ritual rendering that entire limitation worthless? Fine. It's just a blue hair color? K. God powered Goku can be taken out by a laser from some grunt. Whatever.

But the unforgivable thing about this movie is its ending. Vegeta is getting his revenge on Freeza. Then he blows up the world. And WHIS JUST REVERSES TIME. Nothing matters anymore. Whis can just reverse time if they lose. And Goku kills Freeza just cause.

Fucking horrid movie. How can anyone like it?

10. Majin SS2 - Didn't care for the simplicity of SS2's changes, but the Majin aspect really compliments the rippling electricity of the form. MSS2 Vegeta was easily the best arc his character he had, so there's that.

9. Ultra SSJ - Not exactly a fan of the form, but the concept behind it. (trading speed for the strength and the caveats that brings with it)

8. Legendary SSJ - Never really cared for Broly but it did help to distinguish him and add some more flavor to the SSJ forms that were otherwise all the same at that point.

7. False Super Saiyan - Just some anime conjecture as to what a 'Super Saiyan' entailed, but interesting in its design and incorporation of the Kaioken form. I like its obscurity and the Slug movie was okay, so there's also that.

6. Super Oozaru - Possibly a bit much, but I liked the relevance it brought back to the Oozaru form.

5. Super Kaioken/SSB Kaioken - Not exactly full forms and I like them for the same concept of blending the newer transformation with an older technique, so I put them in the same slot.

4. Super Saiyan God - I like the new direction it brought to the franchise and its slim form in juxtaposition to the muscle growth made in most SS forms.

3. Super Saiyan - Iconic form that originally came with a great air of mystery and buildup. Though lost as powercreep took place, the personal suffering and anguish needed to bring on the form made it pretty interesting - Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks each unlocking it through their intense personal sufferings.

2. Oozaru - Underrated, original transformation that served as a good distinction between Humans and Saiyans. Elements like Saiyans hunting during a planet's moon, Goku realizing he killed his grandpa, and elite Saiyans creating artificial moons is easily some of the best lore in the whole series.

1. Super Saiyan 4 - Really looks like the "end" stage of Saiyan transformations, fusing previous qualities and looking unique yet very "Saiyan" while doing so.

Is it just me or is DBZ abridged waaaay better than it should be?

Like yeah you'd expect it to be funny but it's way smarter and more quotable than you'd think - I almost feel like if those guys were working in a big studio they'd be really successful.

The thing I usually have against parodies is that they can take away some of the magic from the og show and yet with Abridged I feel it actually just adds to the franchise.

Sure you can say it's much easier to add/parody a show than create one from scratch, which is true. But all the call backs, endlessly quotable lines and a sense of characterisation thats so hilariously spot on, it's arguably way more consistent than the show - which again is the opposite to what you'd expect, as parodies often just make the characters crazy versions of their former selves for a cheap laugh.

Even just little things like trunks suddenly saying 'crap baskets' after hearing gohan say it for so long, isn't just funny but adds a real sense of weight and plausibility to the world of the show.

Anyone else think this is kinda crazy? Like If I feel the need to get a DB fix I usually end up opting for abridged over Kai and noticing extra little inside jokes or even have my attention drawn to details in the relationships of certain characters from the og show.

Abridged Episode 59 was a huge return to form, but the show mostly sucked from the moment Cell went perfect. The episode where he fought Trunks was decent, but must of the rest of the Perfect Cell period had been weak and solidified the complaints that DBZA had stopped being a parody and become a gag dub.

That said, as I stated above, I do think Episode 59 was great. And thank god because I was anti-hype for the Season Finale after the long string of suck.

Because being stronger doesn't mean shit if you wind up Kikoho-ing yourself to death when Krillin actually physically hurt Nappa twice, and that's not including the bullshit, never hits anything Kienzan. As for the Freeza saga, Tenshinhan was dead throughout the entire thing, despite him training with King Kai. When Krillin got his power unlocked, it didn't just stay static, it slowly flowed until his death by the hands of Freeza. There's a reason why Vegeta said if he, Gohan, and Krillin all fought first form Freeza they could potentially win, or at least not get killed after all.

As for the Cell saga, I still believe Krillin was stronger, despite Tenshinhan's awesome Shin Kikoho. The Kikoho doesn't use your actual ki strength, it uses your life force. Every single blast he did drained his life. It was going to kill him if he kept it up. By the time we get to the Buu saga, sure Krillin had slacked on his training, but the second 18 found out about that tournament she made him train with her for it, so he's stronger than he was during the Cell saga. When Tenshinhan appeared, he blasted away a ki attack from Buutenks, but was knocked out in one hit.

I won't even go into Super as I will admit that it was some bullshit that Tenshinhan lost to Roshi, but I won't deny that Krillin has been hyped up to have gotten a lot stronger ever since he shedded his fears away in that forest with the magic herbs. Combine that with the fact that in episode 99 he's going to get some sort of power up, I think he's still stronger than Tenshinhan. Tenshinhan needs to stop training the same way as he's been doing and try something different instead of nearly killing Chaozu via training. As for Toriyama being senile? He's been senile ever since the 90s.

I don't agree. DBZ's appeal is the fact that it combines a Scifi epic with a Kung Fu Melodrama. At least in the west its fans went around INVENTING the details that were omitted. There's a reason Dragonball never found the levels of success in the west that Z did, and I think its all about that perception of maturity and complexity, even when it was just an illusion. Naruto had the complexity that DBZ's fans imagined that it had, and I think that was a huge contributor to it being in DBZ's league in the states.

I don't think Toriyama had any friendship sword in his outline, only ki + sword. Note that Trunks had an aura around his sword while slicing merged Zamasu in the manga.

I do think Toyotaro kind of messed up there though. If Toriyama included something specific like that "Trunks slices Zamasu with a sword infused with ki" in his story outline, which generally doesn't say much about battles, then it should receive focus, rather than being a minor random event like it was in the manga.

meh, I played through the DLC and frankly it was quite boring
the only really wacky things were Black using the scythe to summon movie villains and the various Trunkses giving energy to Toranksu
rest was safe as fuck, which I wouldn't even mind if it wasn't for the REALLY shitty dub
Zamasu's English dub is just terrible, it's not even the voice, it's the tone and delivery that is the problem.
His English VA sounds like he's bored and just reading a script, all the lines he was saying from the anime had like zero impact.
Meanwhile Miki's Zamasu is full of emotion and good acting, considering to replay through the DLC with Japanese voices tbqh
And don't get me started with Black's split personality disorder, good job from Sean ''I take no audience feedback'' Schemmel there

I think that's mostly an issue of genre. Dragonball starts focused mostly on humor, which generally doesn't translate well. In addition to that, even in Japan, the adventure parts from the beginning of DB were less popular than the fighting parts too which is why the series became fighting focused in the first place.
