Yeah that's a major weakness of tower of god. It has a lot of interesting characters with decent backstories that just kind of vanish. I think it's meant to be a "The world is alive and things are happening the protagonists have no idea of." But he tends leave it hanging a tad too much. I still find it pretty enjoyable even so though.

I read Household Affairs and I can confirm this to be bullshit.

I really like Chinese manhua and Korean manhwa. Manhua can have better tragic plot without ruining everything at the end like manga. Manhwa can be really unpredictable and surprising. I remember a manhwa that it was like shonen-tier and in the end the mc didn't get the girl because she died and a lot of other important characters died, it was surprising but cool seeing how I didn't see that coming, good but sad end.

Also, I love how a lot of TOG characters are named after football players, I don't like football but it's fun, SIU a cute.

It literally was a filler, SIU himself said it was mini-arc before the FOD arc, so we all knew what we were getting into.

Even a fucking mini-filler arc took like a year and a half to finish, very typical of SIU's terrible habit of dragging shit out.

All of it just so Baam could get another princess under his harem, this time a rejected princess.

I was furious about it, but I won't deny Kaiser had excellent legs above all else. God bless SIU for that.

Japs already do a lot of tragic bittersweet endings compared to west and China and Korea go even deeper on it. To me there's nothing surprising when a lot of cast members die because that's what I expect from them.

Hell Train Arc was like 2 years, Kaiser's Arc which was supposed to be a mini-arc to chill out before the next major Arc was a year and a half long.

Floor of Death Arc has arguably been his fastest Arc since it's ending as of the current preview raws at 6 months. It'll be an extra month long for everyone else except the Korean preview readers.

He stated in an interview that he wanted the story to be pretty harsh originally. If you look at S1, lots of character are shown, and sometimes die immediatly after. Lots of elimination, too.

The problem is the main cast,and SIU,the author, doesn't dare to kill them off it seems. Because of the fans.

Story wise ToG started really interesting. The characters were a lot of fun and they had interesting personalities. The games were a ton of fun too.

The only drawback was the art early on. But the art got really damn impressive later, with the drawback on story pacing, characters, and battles.

I still love reading the series, but it has gotten a lot less interesting, though its still fun.

I miss Rak though, his return was amazing, he needs more screen time.

I think they showed too much of Urek Mazino too early. He's pretty much the second strongest being in tower after Zahard himself (yeah, there are Phantominum and Enryu, but they disappeared so whatever). Even now, that Gustang dude appeared and is supposedly insanely strong, but we know in fact that Urek is much stronger so there is no much hype.
Even if White returns to his prime strength, we know that he wasn't even high ranker, just regular ranker, so Urek would be able to kill him like with a finger flick.
Introducing Urek so early was a mistake.

I think his complaint mainly stems from the fact that if you're going to center the story around a character like this and have them grow at an exponential rate, perhaps this kind of cast should have been introduced at a later point where they wouldn't need to be bumped up to absurd levels beyond their power to keep up with Baam and the enemies he's facing.

That being said, I think he does a good job of building an organic world. Baam obviously had to start from somewhere. I wouldn't be opposed to Baam outstripping his teammates and moving on, because details like that are what help create a realistic world, especially relative to Baam.

Even if he doesn't go in that direction, there are still things that his other teammates could do. Frankly, their power has never exactly been explicitly stated. Then Khun has something as powerful as an Opera, which I'm sure will only magnify in strength as the series goes on. I think he's done a good job at pushing people's growths forward to maintain at least some relevance, myself.

Frankly, the only things I see that could be construed as asspulls are:
1) A part of White choosing Baam. This might seem Sueish, but it is substantiated by reasoning. When considering it from the standpoint of Baam has been absorbing souls, it makes even more sense.
2) Meeting with the God of Guardians, which is substantiated by him meeting with Urek Mazino before him. It's not unnatural he would take an interest in an Irregular. After all, Zahard and co. were irregulars to begin with as well.

i always just assumed the train was somehow programmed to detect irregulars and send them to GoG if they ever used a warp gate desu. it would explain why GoG has consistently met with every irregular that's been on the train.

I like that SIU went back to lenghty chapters, the story is moving at nice pace now. The main reason the Hell Train arc lasted 2 years is that the chapters were really short and there was a bunch of lenghty hiatus.
But fuck why does he need to keep introducing new characters? It's really the biggest flaw of ToG, tons of side characters we know very little about. And when I get a liking to one I have to cross my fingers in hope he'll have more than a line every 6 month.

One of the best think about ToG is that there is just so much to the world, the very fact that there is no water or air in the tower (shinsoo replaces both, so weird) or the strange creatures, or the fact the tower is so goddamn vast that there are entire countries on some floors that have existed without ever hearing about Zahard...
