I'm still confused about the whole character identity thing as in are all instances of a character the same character. We know that Altair can be powered up by fan content, but meteora chalks that up to that being her power because the same is clearly not true for the rest of the cast. That would imply that only the reality of the works they come from affects them. This is contradicted by Slesia's power-up because Matsubara writes in a new power for the novel and not the anime adaptation and it affects her, however she is unaware of the events from the novel which makes it a bit confusing as it indicates she should be a separate entity. If they do a cross-over work that should be non-canon for the rest of their stories, should they power up at all when you could argue that the cross-over characters are not actually them. I kind of hope they actually deal with that, but the show's logic is already pretty convoluted for the sake of plot convenience.

Because what's canon to the LN is strongly correlated to what's canon in the anime. If someone posts manga/LN spoilers in an anime thread everyone assumes it's canon, in the same way we consider the cut scenes from hiroe script canon. In this scenario exists only one world for each character, and the canon is the common concept people have of the character.

While the crossover is airing, the version in the crossover will be the one strongest in people's memory, which will allow to empower characters without conflicting with their original stories as long as the perception is that they are still in-character and that the author is involved and considers it true as well.

Yes. With the exception of the character deviates so much that the fandom considers them separate entities and as such their world split in two initially identical ones, like Shirotsumekusa and Altair. Or at least that's the theory presented so far.

In Selesia's case, LN and anime are close enough that this doesn't happen, but an unfaithful adaptation would split. About the crossover there are really two options they can follow. It either create a split and they go back to another new world with memories of the event or they lose the memory and go back to their original world since they'd be accepted as the same character, and as such it can't have inconsistencies such as out of world powerups and knowledge (unless of course the authors make the crossover fully canon in the original as well, including the knowledge of the real world).

Canon sometimes it can be influenced, complemented or even changed by fan canon.

The best example I can think of this is certain cartoon horse.
The fan canon became so popular that eventually the traits given by the fans became official.

Crossovers aren't usually considered canon, but they are accepted to certain degree, which is why they happen, fans want them, and in a way it's making fan canon official.

Some people have been saying that the crossover should create alternate versions of the characters but I don't think so.
If the collective conscious accepts them as the canon characters then it should keep them as the same in the crossover even if the crossover as a whole is not exactly accepted as canon.
