Since every new episode introduced a new GOD MOD variant that wiped out entire legions with a single hand gesture. People don't understand that animators =/= writers. They just like to draw. Some have ideas and things they want to show that they put into animation, but generally most of them just want to draw cool, beautiful, interesting and moving scenes, that's it. People tend overanalyze anime and assign deeper meaning to something that doesn't have any.

I don't think it's the best anime ever, when it came out it maybe was but people who claim it still is the case are just nostalgic of that time. It still is a great anime tho
