So what exactly does one gain by excluding nipples from BDs? I somehow doubt anyone paying $80/BD is going to not buy a show because of nipples, if you happen to need a censored version for something you still have the TV version, and similar shows with nipples have done well overseas so it is probably only hurting you there. It also isn't like you are introducing nipples to a franchise without them when the manga has them.

I think this is probably the heart of the problem.

The people who like and came for the fanservice ultimately didn't get enough fanservice, and the people who like stories (mostly) didn't come at all.
I think I fall closer to the latter category, and I didn't have any of the problems this Anon is complaining about. Rather, I liked Keijo a lot. My biggest problem with it probably being the budget and animation issues that plagued the later half of the show.
Regardless, if more people like me didn't decide to brush it off from the get go, I think Keijo would have done better. Honestly, I'm a bit sad to see it go.

The sad thing is that the author really seemed to put a lot of thought into the sport mechanics and rules, even if it was an admittedly very lewd premise he put a lot of passion into it, i hope he can recover.

Detailed and unique nipples/areolas for each girl would have been awesome. Something distinctive for each girl for size, color, shape, etc.

Keijo was that anime you call the greatest thing ever while it airs just to piss off the SJWs, watch a couple KeiJoJo memes after it's done and then forget about afterward.
It actively removed plot that was in the source material and didn't reinvest enough of it into keeping up the quality of the fanservice. The tournament arc with Sayaka and Ass Eater was something we've all seen a hundred times and we only tolerated it because "Ass Eater" made us laugh once and the nipple judo throw and Za Warudo teleporting/flashing was sorta funny. But it's also a symbol of where the priorities went in the latter half of the series. Yuri that never goes anywhere, pervy shit because pervy shit is funny, and memes by the metric fuckton.

Watch Shimoneta instead if you haven't, which given where we all are, you probably already have, and you know that absurd, ranuchy fanservice has been done better.
Keijo was a vapid experience, although not an altogether bad one. But as much as I love pervy Japanese shit, I can't seriously see myself rewatching it.

I didn't care much about the show, only watched it because a friend liked it and played it on stream. Perceived it as a juvenile gag anime (which got old and boring after an episode or three) and as an attempt to attract permanently horny middle school boys (who unfortunately don't have the disposable income to buy $400-BD-sets). Certainly not as a serious sports anime. The show just used the sports part as an excuse for delivering boob and ass shots all the time. Couldn't take it more seriously than the "plot" in a porn movie.

In all honestly. Depending on the direction the author had taken this, I might have agreed with your point. However in-universe these characters take this sport Keijo very seriously and are very passionate about succeeding in this sport and its because the characters themselves do not treat Keijo as some absurdity/joke that only appeals to the male demographic and view it as a competition that could bring them millions if they stand at the top. That's why I as a watcher can also take Keijo as a serious sports anime. For me Keijo is not much different to a lot of other shounen, except instead of using swords and magic to battle, they use their T&A. Also the ideas and techniques that the author comes up with are very creative and even astounding and never stops to entertain me.

Hopefully a translator can do a better and more detailed job at this but a summary:

Before the anime broadcast started he was already told to end the manga around the time the anime broadcast was over too. So it was decided before the anime started airing, it's sales wasn't going to affect it in any way.

He also mentions he contacted the anime company and the sales number for volume 1 is actually higher than then 715, as in almost being an order of maginutede higher.

The serialization ending was because of his own lack of skill and the publisher's circumstances. Altrhought if he was to be honest, things may have been different if the publisher (Shogakukan) was more supportive, like how he went almost a year and a half without assistants (he did comment on some posts sometime in the past about that) or how keijo kept being left in the end of the magazine even thought they were working hard to hype it up during the anime broadcast (the editor-in-chief apparently is the one who decides that).

He had some hard times but was able to put it through because of the encouragement of the anime staff, of his assistant/s and of the editor he was assigned to.

He wanted to draw a race where Aoba's effort were rewarded but in the end didn't have enought time to do it.

While he grumbled a lot, he is thankful to Sunday to give him to opportunity to doing Keijo. He's also very thankful to the readers who read it until the very end. Also very thankful for the staff and cast of the anime that hard work also made him work hard at the end. He also thanks all the assistants that helped him thought the serialization.

While a lot happened, he was glad he draw Keijo.

Yeah I completely agree with your point here.
