Not him, but I somewhat like it. Yes, some of the characters look incredibly simplified at time (like somebody deeply rooted in Western animation trying to make an anime-like animation, or to make a worse comparison, like an amateur DeviantArt sketch), but the amazing, fluid animation pays off. I'm not really sure about the colour palette they've chosen, but I hope it's among the highlights of the year. The release date is quite nice, too, as this looks essentially like a "fun, nostalgic summer movie" that has in its' aim to entertain you, make you feel, and encourage you to go out and have fun, rather than staying in your room.

Shin Devilman, Devilman Lady, Devilman Saga in that order. All of those are by Nagai. Also Getter Robo vs Devilman but you should read Ishikawa's Getter Robo Saga first.

Devilman Saga is recent and not finished, so you can hold that out for now.

Which means you can check Amon Apocalypse of Devilman, Strange Days and Neo Devilman, Devilman vs Hades, and the kiddy TV Magazine Devilman manga by Nagai's assistant. Devilman Grimoire is also getting an official release so there's that.

Dante Shinkyoku is a manga adaptation of the Divine Comedy using Gustave Dore's illustrations. It's pretty cool.

Also, Maou Dante, although the magazine was cancelled so it didn't have an ending. The anime offers one but it's cheap and not worth watching at all.

Violence Jack and Shin Violence Jack are also part of Devilman. Shin is fully scanlated, but Violence Jack isn't, but you can still read what's translated of it.

VJ is Nagai's longest manga.

Yeah you're right. Add all of those to why I generally prefer old manga.

I like cartoony artstyles, because I find them easier to follow, when they're trying to depict complex action sequences. I'm slow on understanding what's going when it comes to many modern manga I tried to read. I find the over abundance of details distracting.

I also have a preference for the kind of stories told in 60s, 70s manga than now. Devilman is simple, but it's unforgettable. At least that's how I view it.

Devilman is the blueprint to many of these kind of stories. Berserk and Parasyte may have developed that idea further, but when you add too much to a simple idea, the message you try to convey can get muddled.

One of the good parts about Devilman is asking who's the demon, but then you found out you are the demon. It's a nice comedic twist.

Again, it is a stretch, but in this scenario humans didn't know what we knew reading, or even half of what we know.
