Who has died that we care about? Netero, Komugi, Meruem and his guards? Nobody died until Chimera arc, an even then the people who bit it were pretty much guaranteed to from their introduction forward. Sure, Togashi bothered to make us sympathize with Meruem and Pitou before killing them, but stakes put you at the edge of your seat, wondering who's going to make it through. You had to be an idiot if you thought the ants would win, or that the innocent blind girl and the wise old man would see it through to the end.

Jesus, even Shoot survived. What purpose could Shoot possibly still serve to the plot? If I were Togashi I'd have offed a good most of the hunters in the CA arc.

It's about stakes. You need to know they CAN die, but that doesn't mean the show needs to fucking genocide characters left and right to prove a point about mortality.

There's no point in killing people for no reason other to be edgy and reduce plot options. It's better to let as many people live as possible while still maintaining the stakes, which is what HxH does.

The only reason they even fought the ants was because Gon's biggest motivation got stuck into the dead middle of the damn conflict. Every event in HxH is important because it IS the story.

Also this kid show meme because 2011 first two arc has to stop. The 1999 version is only darker in the sense that the lights are off, while they there were very notable out of character moments that 1999 shitters try to label as 'charter development'. 1999 has some good art direction but most of the scenes are some muddled palettes and borderline QUALITY shots. At the of the day the nether of the 1999 nor 2011 are better.

The stats are from the yu yu hakusho official character book, which is credited to togashi. I don't know why he wrote and hxh characters in a yyh book, but i'm not him. Gon and Killua's stats are from the CA arc, but Leorio's and Kurapika's are from the Yorkshin arc. The hxh wiki has full lists of each character's stat progression.

And it's not bad writing at all. Ai is the desire of co-dependence, however it's qualified as a calamity by human standard. That meant that it had negative effects on any humans it touched. There wasn't any acknowledgement on the contaminated guy's part, so we've always viewed the Ai as despair bringers. However for the first time love, acceptance and acknowledgement are shown to one of Ai's "victims". The desire of co-dependence finally found a human that didn't mind her, thus it is happy. You shouldn't see the situation as "Killua has a calamity he can control" but "Calamities can be allies to humans. Calamities have souls and feeling.(or at least just Ai, maybe Brion and Papu too.)

I can't be the only one who actually prefers the 2011 anime to the original material. And 9 times out of 10 I prefer the manga but I feel like it's the definitive version of what Togashi had in mind. It's exactly how I imagined an anime version of Hunter x Hunter, even getting rid of the art's inconsistency and walls of texts.

I'll have to give the 99' version a try sometime but not anytime soon.
