It seems like plenty of anons have been reading the manga already. My Jap reading skills are terrible, which is why I only do redraws and some typesetting.

The actual encounter was pretty faithful to the manga. Only the things that happened around it were added to the anime. Chiya didn't even lick Saku in the manga. Kuro doesn't even appear that often and I think they mentioned that it's not an actual marriage. Uraras who actually have seen a god are very rare. Nina is divining just fine and she's never seen a god. The marriage festival is just a silly tradition. Chiya may have a special bond to this god who can help her in divinations, but I seriously doubt she or anyone else expects her to marry him.

I feel kind of bad for being rather apathetic towards Nono but being so into Chiya/Kon/Koume, who are all 10/10s in different ways. Many shows only have one obvious ten but here we have an overabundance of riches.

Also Japanese probably find the setting kind of stale, while a show with a bunch of ancient eastern mysticism in it is super cool and exotic to us. Or at least some of us. Likewise they literally will not shut up about Gochiusa probably in good part because rustic faux-Germany is endlessly cool to them and an SoL there is really unique. I'd counter it's not every day you get an urara setting either as opposed to middle or high school, but whatever.

Lastly Kirara shows seem very hit and miss. Stella didn't sell well and neither did Sansha Sanyou, and I really liked SS. I don't know what in the fuck is wrong with Japan these days, I suspect more and more otaku these days are too drained of their money on shitty little mobage microtransactions to have enough leftover for supporting anime.

Lastly it just so happens that Japan quite often has infuriatingly bad taste. Jinrui didn't sell well, neither did Yuyushiki or Flip Flappers etc in comparison to fucking dogshit like IS doing 20k.

Addendum, as to why it isn't more popular on /a/, probably because people aren't as willing to give anything JCstaff a shot at all (even though Urara is wonderfully produced and animated, they gave it some effort) when there are Dogakobo and KyoAni Sol/comedy type shows airing in the same season. Like, if Urara stood alone in this niche it could dominate in a more stale season, but it aired against stiff competition. Many otaku probably only have budget for one or two shows a season to support and can't just buy everything if there are many shows worth supporting.

I've noticed quite often that when a season is just stacked as hell that even really amazing shows can get kind of ignored for no good reason and it's just a fucking shame.

The WWWJDIC database used by most J-E dictionary websites was compiled by human beings. It didn't just pop into existence, and it's not an authoritative definition of Japanese Word A = English Word B.

It's based on what the researchers thought was an appropriate--and pithy--gloss for each word. And they had to do this for a database of 170k+ lemmas. Of course the compilers of the dictionary have a level of authority based on their qualifications, but what their dictionary lists is not the be-all and end-all.

"icha-icha" = "flirt" is not based on some inherent linguistic truth. It's not the "literal" translation just because jisho.org spits that out when you plug in the romaji. Very few words in two different languages have one-to-one correspondence, and adjusting for context is part of the job of a translator.
