I like WA2 because it's just about 3 people in a love triangle, but they fleshed out all the characters really well and they act in a believable, human manner.

There's far, far too many characters in WA1 (and the MC sleeps with most of them in really contrived circumstances) and I suspect they tried to ram the whole VN in there, every route, which is why we get a really weak subplot about him shagging his 'girlfriend's cougar manager which like most subplots in WA1, just goes nowhere.

If they just focused on MC, based Rina (I love Rina, I'll admit that) and Yuki, then it would have been better imo, though that still leaves that 'twist' at the end about who what happened to him as a kid which I thought was fucking awful.

I guess if people must watch it, I implore you to watch WA2 first, it's shorter anyway, I think WA1 is about twice as long (and incoherent).

No, it's set 10 years before WA2 and the only relevance it has is that the characters in WA2 are all fans of the music produced by the Pop Idol characters in WA1.

WA2 is only 13 episodes long, has good songs and human characters, I highly recommend it.
