Hell, FF's better than Bubuki because most of Reoko/Azuma happens when the only teenage thing about Reoko is her undying unaging body. She has all the experiences and memories of an adult
Cocona/Papika's better because the romance happens when Papika's a new person of Cocona's age due to deaging and amnesia shenanigans. Even ff Papikana's as old as Mimi, Papika's a girl of Cocona's age.
All in all, a great finale to a great show.

I'd need to analyze the story further to form an absolute opinion to stand by. But as far as I'm aware there were a ton of red herrings and Thomassons in Flip Flippers imagery. Not to mention that most of the characters had very little relevance to the plot and one character with a distinct design showed up for about 2 minutes total.

I'm a huge fan of Eva and other shows that have a greater (not necessarily hidden) message. I also loved Madoka while it was airing. Decrypting Inu Curry's hidden message and predicting the story through foreshadowing with /a/ was a load of fun.

However, Flip Flappers just seemed really shallow. The early episodes of cute girls exploring fantasy worlds were admittedly fun. The overarching plot was simple and effective, but its presentation ruined the pacing of the show. All of the apparent "foreshadowing" just made it seem pretentious since there wasn't really much of a meaning behind the progression of events and the plot was, again, really simple but just hamfistedly obscured from the viewer.

Even now some things just make absolutely no sense, like Mimi's entire character. Her behavior and dissociative personalities aren't realistic or believable for a mother, even given her living circumstances. Why were there even multiple Mimis to begin with besides to set-up dramatic scenes which are ultimately resolved with a handwave and the power of friendship?

The Mimi from the end, who had learned her lesson, influenced the Mimi from the flashback, who had not yet learned and orchestrated the events so that they would play out in the way that gave her daughter love and freedom in the end. I just don't think you can apply the "RELEVANT TO THE PLOT OR USELESS" to a show like Flip Flappers. Everything in the first half had something to say (a point many people belabor endlessly), that doesn't mean that those things not mattering to the endgame makes them worthless. In the end it's still a story about Cocona first discovering herself and then dealing with her family issues, all the metaphors used to do that not forming a coherent whole is not a huge problem in my opinion.

There was plenty of actual foreshadwing and not just "foreshadowing" alot of people on /a/ had managed to predict a fair few of the later twists based on subtle details.

I read an interview with Cocona's VA yesterday and she was saying that Flip Flappers was never intended to be the kind of show that wants to tell you "this is the story being conveyed" but that people should watch it and come up with their own interpretations and those are just as much the truth. Basically saying Flip Flappers is just as much your story as anyone elses.

She also went on to say she would love to see a Yayaka spin off which was cool.

I thought it was very interesting. Most of this scene was animated on the 2s, but a few moments shifted to on the 1s for a couple frames. It created a very interesting effect where the pace of the cut shifts between distinctly visible moments where you can absorb the details briefly, and frenetic explosions of movement difficult for the eye to track.
It was really well done.
