Yugioh spin-off anime was never exactly a huge competitor in kids' anime compared to something like Pokemon, but it might as well just take itself out of the running entirely if it goes the YW route. It just doesn't have the same manpower behind it.

They could go a route where they make the new series stand out by going in a notably different direction from the rest of the YW generation (at least on the surface level), but that's involves a little risk so I'm doubtful.

Logical based on trends, but there's no substantial evidence that they will follow a trend other than that the trend exists. It's 100% based on speculation that they'll copy everyone else to a T despite most of those other franchises being worked on by the original creators, while Takahashi checked out a long time ago and wrote a fairly definitive end to his story, unlike Toriyama and others.
It's my point exactly that there will almost certainly be another series. I don't think there's any particular reason for a lack of announcement, though; if not Shonen Jump, they would announce it whatever way they could.

By 'people', I'm obviously speaking very generally of the audience as a whole, not specifically of fanboys like you or me who spend way too much time reflecting back on a frivolous card commercial.

Unlike you, I recognize that the majority of the audience are likely casual watchers. Stream/download it once, and then forget about it until the next episode. And that's IF they're even involved that far to keep up weekly instead of batch-watching and deleting it from the HD afterwards. But even casual watchers can have at least some standards, seen by the nico revenge ratings.

5D's part 1 is probably the tightest and most cohesive piece of storytelling to ever come out of a spin-off Yugioh, but fact that worse part of it is ~30 episodes longer than the good part leaves an irreparable stain and impression of its legacy. The main difference is that Arc-V's happens to be better recorded. Even with that, 5D's part 2 arguably at least had better duels and animation that didn't quite shit itself so often after BBT's production ended.
