I don't think Papika knows as much as Salt about stuff? At least it doesn't seem so. If my idea is true then Salt obviously also knows that Cocona needed to be mega stressed for it to happen

The theory that the ED scrolling pictures are a metaphorical representation of the whole story, in broad strokes, needed someone to be the witch. The final scene of this ep clearly hints at Mimi being evil/pissed/antagonistic to everyone but Cocona, and also an entity that will "protect" (i.e. control) Cocona. Cocona will have to break free from that, also because escaping from the oppressive incluence of your mom points at the themes of indepencdence and self-identity that have been going since ep1

Not sure if "betray" is the right word but Nyunyu seemed clearly oblivious/innocent to the stakes and didn't react well to the dude ordering her around. If she is just gonna play the role of 'new bad guy, now stronk' I don't think they would've introduced her like that. I'm predicting Cocona-Mimi will have some interactions with her in order to create a purpose for her character that is actually relevant to us in a storytelling sense, rather than her being just a hollow plot element

As others already mentioned, it’s highly unlikely that Mimi is going to be the Deus ex Machina to save everyone and everything. This show has been entirely about Cocona growing up, so it makes no sense for it to end with her going back to her mother. Mimi of course won’t be evil, that shit doesn’t fly in honoraru nippon famiries, they’ll get along just fine, but Cocona will be an independent and mature person on her own too. That means the show needs to depict a bond between Cocona and someone else who isn’t family, otherwise the family bond would overshadow everything.

They still need to show the exact moment Cocona becomes a woman too.
