Well the thing there is, most anime studios aren't really involved in the financing or distribution etc of their shows to any great extent so they simply are not setup to deal with it. On a show like this 3Hz will have been set a budget by a production committee from which they might make some money depending on costs and if it is successful they might get a tiny share in the profits from BD sales but the majority of that is going to the distributors like Happinet and GAGA on this show. It has its bad sides and its good sides, if it weren't for a system like this we would see anime studios going bust far more often.

The "insurance model" of production companies collectively "betting" on new shows will continue to allow shows like Flip Flappers to be made. Even though they mostly fail, when they do succeed they succeed big.

And don't cry too much for the creators, they're all getting paid, building an impressive work portfolio, and obviously having a lot of creative freedom to work on something you can tell they enjoy. The only let-down for them is that more people aren't seeing the fruits of their labour.

Cables eventually normalize because technology advances and a new connection method emerges that's superior to proprietary ones. At that stage it's more cost effective for the proprietors to cede to the new technology rather than invest the R&D to develop a proprietary equivalent.

Media software isn't like that because two companies could have patented media formats that are identical to one another except in their compatibility. All it takes for something to be a proprietary format is a little bit of DRM that checks to make sure you're using the correct player (eg. the one with their software license) before letting it play. When there's an advancement in the technology of media software or players, every company with proprietary software will just copy that advancement and incorporate it into their system, because the thing that makes their version exclusive is not tied to the technology used.

The industry I work in is similar. Every major manufacturer just copies the same chemical composition and then introduces like 0.001% of an inert element to make it technically distinct despite being functionally identical. Then they each patent it by different names and you have a half dozen patents for the same material, all which can be used only through exclusive licenses.

It is run by Takayuki Nagatani who used to work at Bandai Visual until 2011 when he started his own production company. He now uses his connections to get funding for anime from companies like Bandai in this case (Happinet, Lantis etc).

They are responsible for a lot of the PA Works originals being put together and essentially serve to attract people to fund a concept rather than actually funding shows themselves. It's all about the connections for them.

It's been a while so I forgot why exactly Yuuna took the short straw in the Mankai lottery, but it's undeniable that Tougou reading the story to potato Yuuna was probably the highest emotional point of the show, so I can clearly ignore some "plot holes".
