Aiki has a side character like that, same for OPM as you probably know. I agree, it's an extremely hilarious gimmick, I feels like Angel Densetsu dropped it halfway through sadly, then it was just the same arc repeating arc of people scared of his face. All these tropes put me in a mood! Let me write something up for ya'll.

MC is a Man fighting for the good of an established Empire against a Rebellion that has been labeled as 'Evil'
Villain is a woman who leads a rebellion that is funded by a neighboring country to overthrow the Empire because she and the country believe they're 'Evil'

MC fights for the good of the poor. Believes the Empire works to help the poor.
Villain fights for the good of her family, who is poor. Believes the Empire works harder and harder to keep the poor impoverished.

MC and Villain genuinely respect one another. This respect evolves throughout their fighting into a physical and emotional love that both characters feel for one another.

Villain is tasked to, and succeeds in killing the Emperor (MC's friend). Betrayed, MC vows to avenge his friend and Emperor. The Empire falls into disarray, with the heaviest burdens being laid on the poor.

Villain and MC confront one another.
MC blames the Villain's actions for the suffering in the Empire.
Villain retorts that the suffering would've been brought about regardless of her actions.
They fight, philosophy vs philosophy, sword vs sword, multiple times. Each fight involves a shaking of resolve or fighting prowess from either character.

Their fights grow and grow, but soon a dilemma is reached. Villain is capable of killing MC, but she can't do it because she's become doubtful and is afraid of being ultimately wrong. MC is also capable of killing Villain, but he can't bear the idea of killing the woman he loves.

The two know that peaceful coexistence between the two ideals that each embodies would be impossible for society at large. They know that something has to give. MC and Villain duel to the death. Each give everything they have. In the end, MC is killed by the Villain.

It's mostly because in real life fighting, an injury almost always means death. Having two long blades doesn't really help, because you don't increase your reach and overkill is useless. A dagger is enough to parry, and making it longer only makes it more cumbersome.
Against something that can survive a sword hit, dual wielding like that might make more sense.

Other arguments against dual-wielding is that generally if you strike with any weapon you are putting your entire body into that swing. You can recover from that swing and attack again with the same arm in pretty much the exact same time as you might swapping to the other arm for the next swing.

There's probably videos explaining this better, but if you physically perform the motion for a right-hand downward swing and freeze yourself at the end of the motion, have a think about where your next attack would come from.

Gash Bell. Super underrated battle shonen, I think /a/ actually considers it one of the best. I dumped the entire manga run a few months ago, it's well worth checking out if you want a longer series to read.

Just keep in mind it takes absolutely ages to get going, actual plot doesn't start to happen till volume 12, and it's sort of only average untill then as well. Avoid the anime, the art quality is so much worse, the third arc is changed for the worse, and the entire last arc is missing. It's got a good OST though.

I have a rar that has all the dump threads saved, along with the anime OST, videos that sync up the later parts of the manga that never got animated to the OST, reaction images, and a bunch of other goodies if you want that.

I'm by no means an expert but it does show up in Italian manuals occasionally. I imagine it would only occur in a dueling arrangement. As another anon said it was much more common to have a dagger to parry, primarily because a dagger is small enough that it's not going to get in the way of your main blade's swing. Whenever I see dual-wielding in manuals it tends to be rapiers which I imagine is because a rapier is primarily a thrusting weapon. That's not to say it doesn't have swinging applications but you'll generally be making more thrusts than swings. However, to counter this argument rapiers are also long as shit so they'd probably get in the way of each other's swings pretty often. With dual-wielding there seems to be two-schools of thought. Using each intermittently one after anther to create a barrage of attacks or to use both simultaneously during attacks making it more difficult to block. Of course your left-hand sword will also be used to parry in either style.
