1. She never did. All she wanted was to have a sister, she dreamed about it and to be able to be near Mei, accepted her sexual antics and bullying. She is ready to do whats needed to keep her near herself, but all she sees in her really is a sister.
2. She never did. Yuzu is lusting over Fathers dick, and dreamed of family. However being awkward she is, instead of accepting Yuzu`s wish for her to act like her sister she essentially bullied and sexually harrassed her - without actually liking her, with intent to scare her.

And the last scene of the series implies that Canaan and Maria are about to meet up again. Alphard is seen following Maria at the Air port when she's going back to America. And the last thing that happens in the series is we see Canaan getting a call saying she has a mission to go after a one armed woman. This tells us that Canaan and Maria are bound to run into each other.
