Playing along with that hypothesis, it would give Yugo, Rin, and Roger much more needed importance and screentime and it does almost explain Rin and Yugo's clothing. Doubtful on the Friendship Cup, however, because unless it was just one big race similar to Wheelie Breakers, there's almost no way it would have room to give it enough focus even as a pairs of 8 tag tournament in a 13-episode arc should the initial 2-year run be taken into consideration.

It would be possible that Academia invasion would ruin the tournament in some way. It's kind of what happened to Friendship Cup, with the whole Sergey VS Jack being antecipated due to Yugo getting sent to Fusion

I used to think Sergey (presumably) being beaten to death off-screen to be very bad, but considering the fact that half the Arc-V cast had their character derailed, Sergey dying in his prime, without being egao'd, was arguably the best way the staff treated the character.

This is just sad.

First off, the new pendulum monster, D/D Brounie! Brounies, AKA Brownies are small demons in Scottish mythology. They are unique in that they seem to be traditionally helpful imps. They would work around the house completely unseen, but would take small amounts of goods as "gifts" from the homeowners. This can be referenced in D/D Brounie's effect that special summons itself from the pendulum zone to make itself useful. This lore can also be seen in its monster effect because it requires another D/D monster besides itself to be tributes in order to special summon the pendulum monster.

Something else to note, this card bares a similarity to Abyss Actor - Extra in that they both summon themselves from the pendulum zone and can move monsters to and from the pendulum zone through monster effects. This makes sense from a story standpoint, because Reiji created the Abyss Actor archetype for Sawatari and likely modeled the card after his own. (This is also why the Abyss Actor archetype searches out their scripts the way D/D/D searches out their contracts)

One final note, it's ironic that this Scottish demon was paired with D/D Savant Thomas because there are some that claim that it wasn't Edison that created the first electrical light, but a Scottish scientist James Lindsay.

Next, Dark Contract with Surplus Summon. This one is fairly straightforward. It is a surplus summon because, not only will this card fusion summon, but it allows you to summon further. However, the "surplus" can also be translated as "redundant" (ha!) or "residua"l. This is referenced in the artwork showing multiple contracts being handled at once and the effect dealing the usual 1000 multiplied by the number of extra deck monsters, thus forcing redundant payment. I can't figure out who that hand and red bead bracelet refers to right now, but I'll figure it out eventually.

Next, Dark Contract with the Eternal Darkness. This card is interesting in that, is truly an amazing floodgate. The card doesn't require you to have a D/D on the field or anything of the like. Simply controlling the card and dealing with the damage are the only limitation. From a design and lore standpoint, there isn't much to go off of. There is one other card that uses "常闇" but it was a continuous spell from the Zexal manga that doesn't have any connection. The only thing that I can think of is the purple specs around the contract itself remind me of the text from Vanity's Call that your can also see coming out of the cloak in Vanity's Emptiness. I'm stumped on this one. Any Ideas fellow anons?

Finally, the new king! D/D/D BOULDER KING DARIUS. Darius was the Persian emperor responsible for expanding the empire to its farthest, all the way to Egypt and part of Greece. He reached his peak in 500 BC, about 500 years before the rise of Caesar. The reason for the comparison is that Caesar is the other Xyz D/D/D monster. Both carry a very large weapon with Darius carrying a staff while Caesar has a sword. The 500 year difference is referenced in the 500 less attack that Darius has than Caesar.

Yuzu isn't the worst out of herself, Yuya, and Gongenzaka anymore thanks to Ostinato making all of her fusions live and playable(even Bloom Prima since now with Ostinato that's two free SS monsters(including a Maestra) and Bloom Prima goes back to the extra during end phase). Now that distinction belongs to Gongenzaka due to no protection.

Ostinato literally is both Brilliant Fusion for Melodious and it searches out whatever you need from the deck.

The MC will be a young man of about 9-12 years of age that has no clue how to play the game and only knows how to use Helmetsummoning, which allows you to, once per turn, just summon the new type of monster from your ED in the place of your Normal Summon. He will have virtually no outward nor inward trauma and have 0 interest in girls (who are yucky, and also completely removed from the show).

Complete overhaul. Regarding the Extra Deck, CCCs were dead on arrival in terms of real game playability by having one card for each summon method (3) + attribute (6) + level range (3), making a total of 54 CCC monsters. What should have happened was to have a CCC for each summon method and level range, making the total a far more manageable 9, with the attribute being variable depending on the non-CC material used to summon the CCC.

Even if you eschew the level range nonsense, you still have 1 for each attribute per summon method, which is 6 * 3 = 18. It'd just end up a second Charmer deck, where your entire deck is basically specific counters that you force with shit like Scroll of Bewitchment and/or DNA Transplant. Your side deck would be the ED attributes you don't use that often, which is fine, but your maindeck would be too small.

In my opinion, I don't think Sawatari is Yuya's rival either, simply because Yuya barely mentions his name and he just doesn't really respect him at all.

It's sad but there's no character in Arc-V that interacted enough with Yuya to be considered as a rival.

This is a similar yet very different situation to GX, as Judai had many characters that could be considered as rivals, such as Manjoume, Kaiser, Edo and Johan, but its hard to choose one definitive rival for him.

I never really thought of it that way, but it makes a lot of sense. Out of everyone, he actually tries to play his deck optimally and manage his resources, instead of just committing his whole hand to an opening board that gets broken in one turn, or trying to win through shitty burn effects. He's literally your average yugioh player stuck in lucksack hell.

He's just like Manjoume in that sense; the pseudo-rival. He challenges the main character early on as an antagonist of sorts, but then later becomes an ally and powerful duelist in his own right. It's a shame neither him nor Reiji become a proper rival.

This situation is nothing like GX. Judai was intentionally given tons of rivals. It helps that Ryo, Edo and Johan ended up being popular and had popular decks. Yuya on the other hand doesn't have multiple rivals. He has no rivalry with anyone. He stands alone. Many people could have fit the rival role like Sawatari, Reiji and the other 3 Yus. Even Yuzu could have been his rival. Instead everything was written so shittily that every character that comes in contact with Yuya feels nothing but undying loyalty and love for him.

He's so lewd (and yes, I'm a guy).

I honestly don't like that most of the characters in Arc-V treats Sawatari as a insensitive fool, (especially Gongnezaka in the Xyz Dimension), even though he overall says practical thing. (Except for the beginning of the Synchro dimension)

In terms of his duels, he lays out very smart tactics, is very skilled in the use of Pendulums, and he can analyze an opponents deck and lay out counter-measures against it, as shown in his duels against Yugo and Kaito.

He really needs more respect from other characters, and the only person who actually gives him a worth is Reiji, who knows he's a expert in pendulum, which is why he gave him the Yosenju and Abyss Actor decks.

Which is a sign because by the end of their second duel Yuya did respect him and said he'd happily duel with Sawatari whenever he wanted.

God, everything went to the tank with Synchro, It's amazing how they had such a likable set of characters and pissed away every single one of them. I can't think of a single character whose been here since Standard that hasn't been ruined in some way. Even the moment Gongenzaka was made for was stupid because he literally could of won the duel on the second turn if he didn't go for a his new synchro rather than one his old ones that wipes the board just like Yuzu would of defeated Sergay had she gone for Bloom Diva instead of Bloom Prima.

Reiji basically considered Sawatari as his guinea pig and nothing else.

It is true that barely anybody treats Sawatari with respect especially since most of the writers don't treat him seriously but he like many of the original characters had a lot of potential that is unfortunately wasted in favor of too much nostalgia, EGAO Messiah and so many other useless things that damaged the series further.

Well, at least all the lancers got respected and stuff in the end of the synchro arc. With them beating security (which they had struggled with many episodes before). Roger even shouting in surprise at their strength, and stuff going left an right.

As much as Synchro was, well, Synchro, and got milked and fillered, the writers still cared at that point. And then in Xyz and Fusion it seems they simply stoppeed, Yuya regressed in personality to before-Jack, Sawatari and Gongenzaka started jobbing over and over, Aster was wrecked off his personality compared to GX and now, in most recent episodes, Yugo who crossed dimensions for Rin chose rather to duel a guy than go after her (even Aster pointed that out), Reiji, originally cold and calculist with many backup plans suddenly became naiive (I'm not refering in against Reira [mostly], when you play with someone you taught you tend to get surprised at how far they have come), and on and on.

As much as I still like Arc-V and would rate it one of the best Yu-Gi-Oh! series, it really went downhill. If not for how amazing it was before, it surely would be into one of the worst series

Reiji is without a doubt a terrible leader and the Lancers at best barely ever acted like a team unless the plot demanded them too. They even written out Chojiro(the guy who helped the Lancers in multiple occasions) in favor of Crow(and we all know how well that went).

To this day he's still one of my favorite characters. Loved his Ancient gear cards, makes me wish he could have dueled in the GX manga, show off some cool manga cards. His first deck was called a dark ages deck, would have been cool if they went with a medievil theme for his manga deck. He could have played all kinds of robotic knights or other medievil things. Or since he's italian, maybe draw some ideas from italian mythology Na no ne.

Look, guys, it really is down to the floodgates. Duels in this franchise are a debate or conversation. They always have been, and they probably always will be, even if sometimes the conversations seem really simple in comparison to other debates we've seen before.

A floodgate symbolizes a shut-out, or a complete denial of the other position. It doesn't exist and CAN'T exist. So long as you pretend that proper opposition can't exist, you are doomed to fall to it.

These represent not a shut-out, but a drastic refutation. The arguments and discussion that came before still happened, and you acknowledge it, but you bring forth evidence or philosophy or something else that completely overturns and invalidates all that is currently on the table, rendering it inert.

That's why negation and destruction will always be "okay", while floodgates will always 100% result in the floodgate player being the loser. This is actually very well exemplified with Reiji and his father. Reiji presumed to know all of the arguments his father would use to justify his actions, but his father brought forth an argument that he hadn't considered, and then used that to pressure Reiji to the point where Reiji's position was no longer valid, and in a way actually helped Leo more than it helped Reiji.

He acts as a real jerk to Judai inthe first 20 or so episodes, but they come to respect each other around the Seven Stars arc which was great character development.

By the second year, he respects all students, and even protects the Osiris
Red dorm from being demolished.

In the third year, he got turned into a zombie for ten or so episodes, which was pretty bad but he spends the rest of the year trying to help out his students in a pretty messed up situation.

In the last year, he has his final duel against Judai which had some callbacks to the first episode of the show, and it was in my opinion the best duel in the GX series.

Although he looks goofy at first, he's a really great and well developed character.
