Not exactly. It's two seperate recordings. The breakout board isn't wired properly to support Gimmick! so instead it uses a YMZ294 which is exactly the same soundwise. The cartridge CONTROLLING the breakout board in the Famicom CAN access Gimmick! so I just recorded the file twice, once Famicom + Gimmick and once with Madara (VRC6) by itself and layered them together.

The video is of the VRC6 recording. If I wanted to I could have just used the breakout board to control the VRC6 and YM substitute at the same time.

It's officially confirmed the painting PI has two layers. And the lower black and white layer is Iroha's memories.

It's also shown what happens in the lower layer takes no time in the upper layer (The fragment started falling when they entered the lower layer and it was still falling when they exited it.). Yeah something along those lines, possibly Cocona gets into life or death danger and she switches sides to save her. That would be more dramatic than her getting just getting kicked out. They have been foreshadowing something like this happening a bit I think with Yayaka on multiple occasions annoying the twins by either being soft on Cocona/Papika or not performing as well as she could presumably because of Cocona being a distraction. Not really, she has plenty of diversity to her character and has developed, learned and grown since episode 1 significantly. We have seen her be angry, sad, annoyed, afraid. To characterise her as just "genki retard" is demonstrating a complete lack of observation. She is clearly very skillful at certain things, quick to learn and inquisitive. Her odd social behaviour and lack of knowledge is most likely explained by a life lived outside of society likely within a lab or something like that.

Nah. The person who has written the majority of the scripts so far has stated that they are only writing up until episode 7. Someone else has already written episode 4 though so its not as if its completely unexpected for there to be more than one writer and it is common in anime anyway. This writer has been misdirected with "Series Composition" on ANN too when the show actually credits them only with coming up with the story concept. So people also thought that was something worry, but the actual original work credit goes to "Pure Illusionist" which suggests that this writer who is stopping at 7 probably only came up with the initial idea then the creative group working on the show made it into something much different than that especially considering they have said they don't completely get what happens after episode 7.

Some have suggested that as they get deeper into the high stakes stuff and closer to the end games of each faction, it might be prudent to switch writers to someone more adept at writing those scenarios. The focus so far has been on the characters' steadily developing relationships and adventures to strange worlds with few consequences. We'll have to wait a couple more weeks before we can say whether or not the switch will have a great effect on the production.

It isn't that much to worry about I don't think, anime change writers all the time. Most of the time nobody even notices. If the director was exerting a lot of control over the script writing so far you shouldn't expect to see much or any change in the characters. I think there will likely be a shift in tone and pace of plot developments myself though as it comes to a final resolution from episode 8 onwards and a move away from the less consequential almost episodic style so far.

Not developed in a way that has anything to do with the narrative in a significant way. Dislike of nail polish but being really pleased with the results after getting painted, no sense of danger that has her nearly get killed to get Cocona's glasses, and so on. The second example influences Cocona's opinion of Papika as she shifts to saying "I guess I'll come on adventures sometimes" to outright obvious refusal, but we know how this character arc ends. Simply showcasing being angry or sad or afraid isn't evidence of deep character. What is her goal, how is she hindered in a way that reflects some identifiable issue like character flaws, and so on.

It tells you nothing deeper about the character because it has no influence on her significant decision maker, characters have decision of two or more options and their decisions reveals something about themselves and depending on the circumstance highlights some aspect of lived in experience. Flip Flapper is completely shallow so far. People are impressed by some part of characterization being explainable by how a character lived in even the most extreme senses. Outright lessons the anime can't help but draw blinking lights to like learning the power of empathy when she worries about Cocona possibly dying. She's not a good character at all. The show's not bad though.

I know I'm being harsh, but I think a lot of other anime are so much better, even when considering only six episodes are out. I don't dislike the show or anything, but the writing isn't good and explorations of themes is shallow so far. Visually, I think it's definitely above average. Ep 3 is possibly my favorite episode, but I have to rewatch it.

That sounds like TTGL doesn’t have a comedic angle. That’s far from the truth, TTGL is very silly and you can count the moments it stops being silly on one hand. It just marries its silliness far better with the story because the story and its themes are coherent while KLK is just a mess. And it’s not like KLK doesn’t have those moments where it tries to be serious too, it just fails spectacularly in all of them.

If you want an example for terrible writing, KLK is it. KLK and TTGL’s writer apparently only wrote a good story once by accident. Or maybe I’m too harsh on the guy and it’s all Imaishi’s fault because KLK already stinks of Inferno Cop in many places.

That is all correct I wouldn't deny any of that but she clearly has a greater emotional range and elements to her character like the lack of social awareness and innate intelligence and skill that seem apparent in her based in things that seem implied so far to be at the root of her character in my opinion go beyond that. Maybe episode 7 could change your opinion more as it seems like we might get an exploration of the facets of her character perhaps with the multiple Papika's in the PV. I would like it if those were all supposed to represent aspects of her personality split into different bodies. You can definitely see the tomboy one being part of her personality and the one with the lipstick, not sure how the ojou-sama looking one would fit though. There were hints at more depth to her character in Episode 4 as well.

I would definitely agree that thematically the anime isn't all that deep, a lot of the stuff people try to interpret into some kind of depth like the forms of Pure Illusion to me just seem like things that are just there because they are neat homages/parodies and fit the story or just plain visually interesting.

I'm curious what you think of Studio Ghibli movies, which are stories that come to mind when reading your assessment of Flip Flappers. Great for their visuals and overall presentation, and some would argue, not terribly deep and/or not especially eager to play with sophisticated themes. That's not inherently "bad writing" necessarily.

I'm personally enjoying the restrained nature of the exposition (as opposed to a lot of shows where attempts to be deep are too readily apparent) as I feel it enhances the mystery, even though I admit that a lot of the show's reputation will still boil down to how it does deliver its answers, when or if it eventually does. It's a great approach for a series if it's looking to slowly build up towards its conclusion throughout the whole 13-episode run, though if there's not much more beneath the current surface by the end, I'll be more inclined to agree with you that it's more a good, but not great anime.

Not to mention that that definition is extremely generic. Reinvigorating the protagonists life can be read into almost any good friend of a protagonist with personal problems because that’s what friends do, and “has X that the protagonist doesn’t have” applies to almost any character ever written.
The actual MPDG definition seems to be much more focused on what the girl doesn’t do than on what she does do, from what I gather from skimming its wikipedia page. In that sense Papika probably counts so far since we are intentionally kept in the dark about her goals and ambitions. She does actively pursue Cocona though, and not for her gain but rather for her own, so maybe that goes against that definition?
Erika really doesn’t count because she arguably has more development and focus than the protagonist herself.
