Probably not. From the previews it looks like they are trying to copy the movie's tone, but it comes off as the cinematic equivalent of cheap cosplay.

I'm sure I'll go in with low expectations, then come out with even lower ones.

I thought it would be more generic Hollywood sci-fi trash but after watching all the previews I am now convinced it will be generic Hollywood sci-fi trash.

The cinematography at least looks quite nice from what we've scene, which surprised me, but I think I agree with this >>148456065, I would have preferred that it be more like SAC, at least then the stakes would be a little lower (especially since that's supposedly the story they're adapting). SAC is great, and a real accomplishment for TV anime, but it's not, you know, considered such an important milestone in animation history like the movie was.

Really though we'll just have to wait and see. I kinda wished it would be immediately obvious Dragonball tier so I wouldn't have to tax my brain over whether or not it's worthy. I kinda just wish it didn't exist.

In all fairness fans expectations are unattainable when it comes to something like this.
Not to mention a production of this level can't be directed only to us if they want to get any money back at all.

That's when things like putting Scarlett, more explosions and action and making the plot more dumb come into play. We all know this is how Hollywood thinks.
Furthermore, if this conditions are met they'll make a sequel for sure and it's not gonna be anything like innocence being the industry what it is.

Still they seem to have gotten at least the pacing right so maybe if we can just look at it as an attempt to make a cyberpunk movie with one or two things borrowed from GITS (which is kind of how most of us think of the original Matrix) it will be alright... as in decent enough. Just don't expect it to be like the original movie. Those are unrealistic standards. Oshii is a great director and his style is too japanese for any hollywood hack.

The thing is, it's great to be getting a cyberpunk movie, but pretty soon we're going to get Blade Runner 2, which, while it seems like a soulless cashgrab in this age of sequels and remakes (and we should be especially wary especially after Prometheus), and I don't understand how they're getting around Deckard still being in it when the Scott's "Final Cut" made it pretty clear he's a replicant, BUT it's being directed by Denis Villeneuve who's been knocking it out the fucking park with his last few movies. I think we can pretty much guarantee GitS is going to be the lesser of these two movies.

I agree. But there are 2 ways it can be the inferior film. It can be a good movie regardless of being inferior or it can be absolute crap and be inferior for all the wrong reasons.

My bet about Deckard is that he was made so similar to humans that he lasted longer while Roy was made to exceed on everything and thus his life was handicapped.

Still if this is a movie of how Deckard teaches Ryan Gosling that he too is a replicant and there is some kind of replicant revolution i am going to be pissed.

Making sequels and remakes of cyberpunk movies is not only soulless, it goes against the whole subversive punk aspects the genre is supposed to represent...
