Rakudai suffers from a poorly executed romance but it was far from boring with its half-decent fights being a good portion of the series. I can't say the same for Asterisk which bored me nearly the entire way through.

I can't deny that the last fight in Rakudai was filled with melodrama and it honestly does take points off but only two fights in Asterisk really did anything for me. 90% of it was unremarkable while I could say only around 60% of Rakudai was unremarkable.

Asterisk is plain horrible. Rakudai is better in every way.

Not all the fights were bad and fights aren't important anyways. Antimagic's strength is in the character interactions, overarching story, setting, and theme. Even with the rushed plot and terrible pacing, it was still more interesting and executed better.

Rakudai and Asterisk are relatively comparable, so I won't get into that. But, I'll comment that the former had better intense action and the latter had better character driven plot and setting.

Rakudai is plain shit. Asterisk is superior in every way.

The early volumes are definitely lacking in the fights but I felt that it's still a pretty big factor in what I enjoyed in the series. The einherjar fight was done a bit too easily, Haunted's fight was all CGI, the dragon was somewhat lackluster, Usagi's fight was arguably one of the more accurate ones and even then, they removed Reima's fight.

But I could have forgiven all of it if they at least showed Kyouya's fight correctly.

I know. I think you've heard me complained about the adaptation decay for the battles and CG before. Among many things, the slow-mo aspect of Soumatou being omitted and just poorly depicted was something I stressed back then before. But still, despite how bad the the anime turned out, it's still better. At the least, that's what most haremfags in the general agreed when we had those threads comparing all three.

Ikki was pretty much a mature Naruto with all the "never giving up" shounen nonsense as his character trait, though you had to kinda respect the guy for all the shit he had been through, despite most of it being forced storytelling.

Ayato on the other hand is a blank slate. The plot gave everything to have an, if cliched, relevant shounen personality. Disappeared sister, sealed power and whatevs, yet he stayed the same boring self insert harem MC the whole two seasons. No quirks, no goals. Though I can't see them, there might be some ways Asterisk is superior to Rakudai but anyone who says Ayato is the best is just deluding himself.

And Takeru is a proud, hair trigger, sword obsessed, workaholic, siscon and supportive MC. All of those traits being properly explained and developed further in the LN. His interactions with the girls all the time is as equals, not as "I'll protetct you" He is not a moralfag, yet we're not treated to an edgelord either, even though he used to be the latter.

To put it in perspective, Antimagic LN made me watch and enjoy the anime despite it's faults, Rakudai anime made me read the LN. Asterisk anime made me drop the LN in volume 3.

Maybe Ayato is too subtle for some too pick up, but the reason Ayato came to the school is in part due to Claudia's scheming from behind the scenes. To find clues of his sister's whereabouts was on his mind the whole time and when he discovered his sister's connection to one of the four color swords and with the school, that made him want to stick around more.

Ayato projected feelings onto Julis when he first saw her fiery determination and when Julis wanted to protect him. The reason for that is because she reminds him of Haru-nee. That became the reason to help Julis for him who wanted to pay back Haru-nee who took care of him. Since then, picking up girls and shouldering their goals became his goals too.
