This is a couple years out of date, and overly complicated. All you need to do is adjust MadVR from the "max" settings down until your computer renders everything faster than the time it takes to display a frame.

I'm lazy so I just use my plex web interface

I'm stuck with a shitty macbook pro from late 2009 and this used to be my main device for watching stuff. But roughly one year ago i made the move and moved over to my phone because it's a miracast enabled device and having a miracast TV sitting in my room i thought it would be a better solution for me.

(For the poorfags who have no idea what miracast is, it's a way of streaming media to your devices using WiFi and it works really well given you follow the correct procedures and have fairly good-quality equipment)

Since the phone I have is an android I'm basically stuck with vlc, which performs fairly well even with large file sizes and video formats. Having my phone as my streaming centrepiece is quite the advantage: for starters i can plug headphones into my phone and have audio coming out of them rather than out of my TV so i can watch stuff while keeping quiet and secondly even my fucking phone performs better than my laptop computer.

Someone told me that the artifacts with vlc got fixed, but when I tested it, I still got them. Maybe there is just something wrong on my end, but I don't know how people can live with that.

A lot of the times anime rips like horriblesubs will have artifacts just because of how they ripped/encoded it, and the player wont help it at all.

I use VLC. Never had a problem with it so I've never had a reason to change.

I think the new branch of AMD drivers is poorer at video rendering because even with madVR pan shots stutter. Hardware wise I should have no problems, but its fucking annoying to be perfectly honest.
