Kanno doesn't plagiarize as much as people think she does. There is a difference in using the same rhythm as another song and actually ripping it off key-for-key.

The rip-offs to like Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. are actually close homages - there are different keys played for the main riff. It's not like when Vanilla Ice ripped off "under pressure" from Queen by adding in a tiny little "hiccup"

And it is amazing how much these same faggots forget songs like Monochrome, Be Human, Lithium Flower, Most of the bebop collection that have a lot more originality in them than Kajiura or Sawano put together.

Whatever you call it, homage or plagiarism, the end result is that Kanno herself doesn't really have a distinct "sound" to her music. Her orchestration is never consistent from work to work, and neither is her style. Just compare the orchestration in Escaflowne to Turn A, there is almost NOTHING in common other than a handful of "nods" to John Williams in a couple of songs. It sounds like each of the soundtracks her name is slapped on has a different person working on it. The music itself is fantastic, but it's missing the cohesiveness that defines an artist. It's the polar opposite of Kajiura and Sawano, where it appears they only have one type of distinct sound and melody that they keep rehashing nonstop.

I think a good balance would be someone like Iwasaki or Hisaishi. You can recognize the sound and styling of their music from a mile away, but each of their works is quite distinct from one another as an overall package.

Sawano did Xenoblade X OST.
Kajiura did Xenosaga II and III OST.

Kajiura wins this easily.
