It has really fantastic art, good humor, great tactical fight's with great choreography and is really excellent at utilizing both positive and negative emotions for FEELS; admittedly the series is a little rough untill arc 2 rolls around where all the above really shines; the art in particular.

>Where are your scans from?
NULL's release. their site is here: http://www.n-u-l-l.net/ and they can also be found on bato.to and mangasaurus. EBJ has superior digital volumes for sale on their site, but they are japanese only, I'll be buying and ripping them eventually. There's also some really amazing quality Portuguese scans, but only for like 20 chapters halfway into the series, and, you know, aren't in english. A-Destiny has really amazingly high res scans in english for volumes 18-33, but they aren't publically available anywhere right now and the translation is generally nost as good as NUll's I feel. I'll work on trying to get them up somewhere for people who want them, though.

You probably saw the localized anime. The anime is pretty not great, and the localization is fucking terrible. The manga is way better, but even it admittedly starts out only above average untill it gets into the second arc.

I never had an issue with Sunbeam's thing because that was at least building off the theme of having your heart connected to your partner. Answer talker and Apollo's shit is sntirely seperate from that or other book/demon concepts

There are a lot of answer-talker bait early on: Riddle Professor, Sunbeam and Apollo. None of them have actually all the answer talker abilities tho. My guess is that Raiku was still fleshing it out and deciding whether or not putting it in this early but decided to just discard it.

The thing that bother me the most out of the first part is that a lot of it is cursing the horrible person who organized the whole tournament: the King is a shitty ruler who enforced a tournament of demons suffering, unwilling fighting and weak people abuse for no reason. Later on there are also evidence that the King neglected a lot of the poor areas of the kingdom.
And he gets away with it. Seriously, no one even bothers calling him out on his shit. The new King is elected and it's all fine and dandy for the previous one. Everyone was probably too worried for Clear and forgot about it

I can't speak for their anime subs, but for the manga, I think null's is generally better.

There's some parts where A-Destiny's is more accurate though, but most of the time NULL's is just worded more naturally.

Also, it's worth noting that the guy who did them said himself that he did them years ago when he was first starting out doing translations and he admitted they were a bit rough.

I spoke to him last night. Really nice guy, took a lot of time out of his night to help me with some stuff for when I do the digital rips. We had like a 20 minute conversation about what the best way to translate spell names was, it was a lot of fun and I can't thank him enough, but yeah, I agree with his assessment that they are a bit rough.

There's two databooks. The first one covers the first 'arc' of the first ten or so volumes and the second one covers the millennium arc.

I own both of them and there's a good amount of interesting information in them, like a map of Mochinoki (the town where Kiyo lives), character bios, and whatnot. I can provide scans of parts of it if people want 'em, but not so much on translating beyond the bare basics.
