It has really fantastic art, good humor, great tactical fight's with great choreography and is really excellent at utilizing both positive and negative emotions for FEELS; admittedly the series is a little rough untill arc 2 rolls around where all the above really shines; the art in particular.

>Where are your scans from?
NULL's release. their site is here: http://www.n-u-l-l.net/ and they can also be found on bato.to and mangasaurus. EBJ has superior digital volumes for sale on their site, but they are japanese only, I'll be buying and ripping them eventually. There's also some really amazing quality Portuguese scans, but only for like 20 chapters halfway into the series, and, you know, aren't in english

You probably saw the localized anime. The anime is pretty not great, and the localization is fucking terrible. The manga is way better, but even it admittedly starts out only above average untill it gets into the second arc.

Incidentally, this fight is the one I use as an example of a "standard" one in the series when trying to give other people an idea of what the series is like.

It's actually a bit below average when you include all the stuff from the later arcs but it's a good demonstration of "This is what the series is like" nontheless, especially for these early volumes

Has anyone ever compiled the info we know to see what the spread is like for where in the human world the Mamodo show up? I think it might be interesting to see. I think Raiku probably did pretty decently with this series and spread them out pretty well. There's obviously more in Japan than would be reasonable for its size, but it's not nearly as bad as some other series where literally everything that happens has worldwide consequences, yet it's only dealt with in Japan

The one issue that always bothered me was how outside of the main group, the human partners never really had much face or say in matters. I mean it's understandable, because the story is mostly about the demons. But you got people who don't seem to be psychopathic maniacs who are happily going along with schemes that can kill millions of people at it's worse, and at it's nicest, you still have seemingly normal people who are trying to murder children (not even the demons, their partners) I still adore Gash Bell, but the human partners outside of 'that' arc just felt like non-characters

I think what really sets Gash Bell a powerful, emotionally, is the theme that is presented from the very start. Gash will lose his friends, theres no way around it, for him to be king he has to be the last standing, so you get emotionally invested and attached to his friends knowing full well that one day they will have their book burned, so it hits even harder when it finally happens

Right, but later on we see one of Brago's gravity spells burn a book just by the gravity being strong enough to decimate it, so any sort of sufficient damage will do it.

An ice spell could probably freeze it solid and you could just shatter it and that would work

Many thanks OP, I do fucking love this series.

I really liked this Volume in particular too. The fight in the cold storage room was excellent with the tactics being used rather then just raw power.
Of course, best girls Tia and Megumi are introduced and the battle against mars is awesome too. It really shows how strong Gash has become already, he will get so much stronger too; and we finally get some team work and ally building.
I can't wait for the whole gang to eventually team up for the ancient mamodo arc and all those after. Laughs will be had and tears will shed.

Ponygon / Umagon must show up pretty fucking soon, yeah? Next volume i hope.

I hope you are memeing. I liked the 1000 Year Stone Demon Arc but let's be real it wasn't that satisfying to see all the characters team up. Some of the characters were straight up useless (Kyanchome), to borderline useless (Tio), and in the grand scheme of things, Sherry and Brago could have solo'd everything in that arc.

Zeon and his minions vs Team Gash was the real shit though.

That was part of the fun though, the rag-tag team of weaklings coming together and making the most of what they had. It was so satisfying to see Kanchome learn to be useful and Umagon finally have a partner, I love the power creep near the end of the series once the number of demons goes down but there was a charm to them making it while still being total shitters. Once its all done you really feel the characters came out way stronger and made lasting connections, these fuckers are a team now. Faudo was fantastic but I remember early on feeling it just a bit, by the book in a sense, like "here's a new threat and a new arc just like millennium demons!" but without the magic of everyone coming together for the first time, it was just a repeat by then
