There are lots of female MC's but most of those are just artifacts or vehicles for average male MC to experience the story. Shana, Haruhi, Taiga, Revy, etc. They're all center characters but ultimately the story don't follow them. Ryuuko was both the main character and the protagonist of Kill la Kill and while there was two more MC's the plot never lost sight that she was the hero of the story.

That's almost unseen nowadays unless its in Mahou Shoujo stuff like Symphogear or Nanoha.

Senketsu is his own person anon; a huge if not the hugest part of why Ryuko and him sympathize with each other is because they're in the same boa. He doesn't know anything about himself but his fate was already decided for him from creation. But like Ryuko he accepts his fate for Ryuko.

Senketsu isn't a father figure or even a mentor, he's Ryuko's equal, her mirror image. This is a concept that is beaten like a deadhorse throughout the show. They learn from each other and work together and eventually validate each other's existence. Senketsu's death is the same thing as TTGL, Simon loses someone at the beginning of the show and drowns in sorrow, and loses someone in the end and is able to take it. Incidentally in the OVA Ryuko continues to wear Senketsu in her heart, their bond is portrayed as an immortal tie that keeps giving Ryuko strength rather than something she no longer needs.

Can't we just simply agree that she loved Senketsu?
It is simply the fact.
However it clearly wasn't sexual love - it's the same as loving your dog, loving that robot in "the iron giant", or how to treat your dragon or sth had that mc-dragon love. (I cant really recall any animey example, as the only one that comes to my mind is from FMA and is not very pleasant)

But it's still that kind of love where you would risk your life for that other "person", and your bond makes you stronger. It just doesn't contain fuckability
