As of today there have been 660 episodes of Pokemon. While there are the occasional two-parter storylines, for the most part Ash's journey necessitates at least one day per episode in order for the series to retain any semblance of temporal rationality.

So that gives us a minimum of two years since Ash began his journey. If we allow the conservative estimate that there is an average of two days between each episode for travel time, that gives us five and a half years, roughly.
