Like other anons have said before me, the anime would be met harshly and S1 wouldn't be very good. Either it'd be rush and skip over a ton of details that become important towards the middle/end of the series, or it's boring af but manages to stay 1:1; S1 would likely end before they got on the boat to travel back home, that or at the cat village

If somehow the ship didn't sink by S1, the following season would ALSO be pretty fucking garbage for the most part with it ending on him getting married to sylphy

Because by the time she entered the Harem team the SoL stuff was already over and we were heading into endgame. She had as much screentime as Roxy/Sylph post rudeus/orsted fighting each other

Especially from the anime perspective. It didn't feel that bad to me personally since I was able to blitz through it but it's literally straight dialogue for roughly 10 episodes.

I actually read all 3 series of light novels. They're completely different series with completely different goals, and three different writing strengths.

YES, overlord is perhaps the best "technically" written light novel out there. The writer writes at about a college level of education. that said, though his vocab is extensive and his writing style mature, his actual story is mediocre (yes, overlord is mediocre)

Re:ZERO is torture porn. Its good if you like that shit, but remember, nothing in this story gets a happy ending.

Mushaku Tensei is perhaps the lowest level of technical skill in the writing of the three. It's basically standard light novel skill level (aka highschool fanfic). The difference between it and all other poorly written LNs out there is this one has a good, well written story, with good characters and solid overarching plot. It has it's weaknesses, still this series gripped my attention like no other LN series out there, so yes, this probably should be considered the best on on the market. it's got a good story, good characters and a well conceptualized fantasy world (something which is quite important for a fantasy novel)

There's already a vocal community that hates Isekai, and has always given LNs and especially Mushoku Tensei shit.

There are still many from years ago when the WNs were being translated people dropped it because muh Eris and the story became a proper harem.

The problem with MT is that despite the world building being pretty good, I find Rudy at the beginning to be pretty hard character to relate to personally. He just comes off as a creepy pedophile with the way he creeps on Eris and those wolf/cat lolis and even Aisha. If Orsted's words could be trusted, he was reincarnated some 2000 years ago, during the 2nd human-demon war. His loops started 200 years ago, perhaps after establishing it as the best save point. From 2000 years ago up until 200 years ago, he kept a low profile, avoiding the war, then succeeding the previous dragon god (Ulpan/Urupan) during the loops, and finally outing himself against Hitogami to start fucking things up against him (hence why Hitogami doesn't know why Orsted hates him)

MT is too long of a series by far to fit into a typical 12 episodes which makes it more difficult to adapt, right? They'd have to cut out tons of stuff, which wouldn't necessarily be bad... just hard on the writers to retain the appeal. It would have to last at least 2 seasons even if each whole VOLUME was reduced to one episode each. I guess it could work though... like...

Series start, to arrival back at Fedoa in the first 6 episodes. There might be low appeal initially though... introducing the heroines then a few episodes of boring journey filler. Open season 2 with a nice slice of life, then the fight with Atofe, and hook people with turning point 4 and the rematch against Orsted. Fair enough, I'm still reading it. I don't fucking know why though. The 4th volume was utter shit. The majority of it was our MC running around a ruined city fighting monsters that were just mooks to him, but he had a warrior princess with him so every fight took some time.

The worst was when they had to fight the boss to get out. It has some regenerating ability and normal attacks can't finish it off. So about 1/3rd of the book is about this one fight because it keeps on coming back. It only ends when the princess goes somewhere else where she can't see the fight, and then our MC kills the boss instantly.

Overlord is more of a novel than most isekai. It's best to read it first rather than watch it first. The anime isn't terrible, it just skips so much context, that it's more of a treat for the readers to watch rather than something for people to watch first.

I wouldn't understand a thing there, and there's no sense to calling something crap when you haven't watched it. Yes, I dropped Overlord but I didn't browse the threads on /a/ for it at all; I picked it up because it looked like one of the better anime that season.

This being said, I'm now convinced to read the LN. I'm downloading it as we're speaking, actually.

It's not so much the harem itself done right, but the way the story handles it, and brings them together. That aspect is done quite well compared to the vast majority of harem stories coming out of Japan.

In either case, just like that anon said, the literal and canon plot-armor was mostly what allowed this situation. A more realistic approach (given his situation) would have involve Rudy becoming a noble, and taking on concubines.
