I agree to an extent, though it's mainly the 4koma adaptations that are pure unfunny garbage. I watched the first episode of Nichijou after everyone said how great it was, failed to even crack a smile and have avoided anything similar to it ever since.

On the other hand stuff like Magipoka was great, and I get plenty of laughs from shows that aren't 100% comedy. I'd say probably the funniest anime I've watched was Ixion Saga.

The pure comedy anime shows are mostly garbage with a very few exceptions. You should try the ones that mix in the other genres, I doubt they'll make you laugh out louds though.

I have to agree for the most part, I just don't find Japanese humor funny since for the most part it seems based on slapstick or puns.

I think Mitsudomoe was the most recent anime I've seen that was funny and that could have been me just liking the overt sexual nature. Think I've seen Cromartrie before and don't really recall finding it funny.

The average people have pretty average sense of humor, which means most mainstream stuff that is aimed at them will be . Just like IRL eleven comedians (TL note: eleven comedians means geinin), only a small minority of gag mangaka have mastered the different aspects of comedy (timing, tone, presentation, references, originality etc). And just like west relies on laugh tracks, elevens rely on heavyhanded tsukkomi, not to mention studio audiences for both of them.

The worst thing about anons is that they pretend to know everything about Japanese comedy culture without watching a single 3DPD comedy show. Just the amount of different subgenres (rakugo, manzai, pin-neta, oogiri, konto, not to mention regular talkshows and all sorts of variety projects) they have makes it so diverse that "hurr puns" and "durr references" makes you look like a fucking retard.
