K-On aged poorly.
>>144452587
You want to know what really aged poorly? My life.
>>144452587
Compared to what?
K-On! Is only 7 tears old, and it's a Kyo Ani show, so it still looks better than most of the crap put out today.
>>144452587
No it didn't.
>>144452587
You aged poorly
>>144452587
No.
>>144452684
Akira
>>144452587

>>144452587

I don't think slice of life evolved that much.

You think that because you witnessed KyoAni shit out the same format show time and time again. Read the manga. All the good bits of the anime were lifted straight from there anyway.
No high school slice of life has achieved what K-On!! has.
K-on is timeless.

Shut up.

Do you mean that it's bad because it's CGDGT or that it's bad among CGDGT shows?
You're wrong in either case mind you but I'm curious.

So you don't have one?
>>144457628
What a retarded inference.
>>144457689
Just go ahead and make your point then.

Yeah, like thinking K-On! was a slice of life.
k-on is the peak of CGDCT
it has yet to be topped

>>144457909
Dont worry guys. Being stuck in loop in his own little world is just a sign of autism. Nothing can be done about it.
>>144457985
I'll give you a hint: comedy, being music-themed and slice of life aren't mutually exclusive.
>>144458061
It's literally a slice of the characters' lives. It has a lighthearted tone floating somewhere in the comedy-healing spectrum. It's mostly episodic but with some sense of progress. It's not just a slice of life, it's slice of life, the anime.
>>144458153
>It's literally a slice of the characters' lives
Nearly every show could be described as a slice of life by this definition.
>>144458134
>>144458153
You clearly don't understand what a slice of life is if you think K-On! is one. Just because you collectively misuse words doesn't mean you're right.
>>144458221
Words are defined by their use.
>>144458221
Half of the fucking show is them drinking tea and eating cake and being cute. What the fuck is that if not slice of life ?
>>144457909
Just like the show, with it being a slice of life.

>>144458219
The key distinction here is that the show is presented as nothing but a period in the characters' lives. The underlying narrative structure is simply "what happened during their school years". There are no central plots that go anywhere, but rather just a bunch of threads that add up to form a representation of that period.
>>144458538

What is it exactly?
>>144457164
you can't age when it was never good to begin with.
>>144459009
The recommendations outside of /r/ rule only applies to OP. You can ask for recommendations all you want within the thread.
>>144459009
And it seems this isnt /a/ either because nobody has mentioned a single anime so far.
>>144459058
Yui's growth from a fairly useless, passionless airhead into a lover of music, a love that gives her the purpose and direction she never had before.
>>144459125
That's character progression, but it doesn't constitute a plot.
>>144459125
Not it. But your definition of SoL isn't right either. Seriously, is this you guys' first day on /a/? There are some actual SoLs that have reached essential status around here. The fact that you haven't seen one is offensive to this board.
>>144459152
What? Of course it does. That's the whole point of the show. It begins with Yui's first day of school joining the light music club, which is the beginning of her love for music, and concludes with her second year performance in which she fully realizes her passion and her hard work comes to fruition.
Granted, there's certainly a lot of other things that happen along the way that we are shown, but that's the primary driving narrative in K-on's first season.
>>144458968
I don't respond to bait. nice job though. you've completely derailed the thread with your shitposting
I am also curious about examples of "real SoL"
>>144457164
Lucky Star is still good.
Lucky Channel is still shit.
>>144459290
That's just KyoAni adding bits and pieces to spin the story with the SoL influences they're accustomed to shitting out. The girl they see in the staff room wasn't even Yui.
>>144459436
SoL is where literally nothing happens, /a/ eats that shit up.
>>144459378
Thank you.
>>144459468
So K-on is not SoL because it has a plot?
>>144452587
K-On is like honey.
>>144459465
>That's just KyoAni adding bits and pieces to spin the story with the SoL influences they're accustomed to shitting out.
What do you mean by this? Why is this relevant in the slightest? Do you agree with me?
>The girl they see in the staff room wasn't even Yui.
That just doesn't make any sense.
It literally is still perfect
>>144459529
No it's not a SoL specifically because it's a comedy. If at least one of you had actually seen a SoL this wouldn't be such a hard thing to understand.
>>144459577
Episode 1. Rio and Mitsu go to the staff room to find out that the K-On club was canned, and the teacher was called away by a fellow student. Originally this was a random nobody, but to fit with KyoAni's yui-centric lesbianist agenda, Yui was shoehorned in there.
"Slice of life" is a stupid, useless term to begin with. Nobody should even be using it.
>>144459733
>lesbianist agenda
There is no such thing as a lesbianist agenda
>>144459733
>No it's not a SoL specifically because it's a comedy
Why would that not make it SoL?
Bullshit.
I rewatched a few scenes from the movie two weeks ago, still made me laugh and smile like a retard, couldn't believe myself. K-On is fucking magic.
>>144459733
>Originally this was a random nobody, but to fit with KyoAni's yui-centric lesbianist agenda, Yui was shoehorned in there.
I don't know what sort of weird tirade you're on right now but I don't understand why you would have any problem with the show turning a random moment of BS into a decent gag and character moment.
>>144459733
>KyoAni's yui-centric lesbianist agenda
Hoo boy here we go
>>144459824
Hence "moeshit"

It does a pretty decent job at describing some shows when no one starts an autistic debate about it.
>>144459733
So are Tamayura and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou Slice of Life? Are these good examples of real SoL?
To claim that there are many /a/ essential anime that are real SoL seems wrong, I haven't heard much talk about them, at least.

The same reason why a saxophone in a rock song doesn't make it jazz.
>>144459863
It's a facade. The series was never about Yui. There was no evidence of Yui and Azusa having feelings for each other until the little one broke down and begged her senpai to not leave her, which is why it's a relevant scene. It's because of your small autistic mind and your inability to look at things that any of these appear remotely right.
>>144460146
What the fuck are you talking about
>>144460146

>>144460363
Of course you'd think that, because your mind is small and you have no sense of chronology. The manga is the original material; its job is not to impress the average kyoani fan. It was however kyoani's job to adapt the fucking story and not make up non canon shit that turns characters into what they are not.

Your point is "I don't like it" or "it's shit." You haven't explained why you think that's the case, other than ridiculously vague claims that require the assumption that the manga is better than the anime and that changes during an adaptation are inherently bad.

>>144461363
Which is what? That the K-on anime is bad? Okay? Why is it bad? Because of you taking offense to percieved pandering? Even though most people think there's more yuri in the manga than there is in the anime? Or do you just take offense to ever change for no reason at all?

Lucky Star aged like milk because it's full of "lol otaku" references to previous shows.

>>144478941
Most of Lucky Star is regular jokes, not otaku references. And those jokes are still funny. And Haruhi is still relevant. You don't need to get the references to 2003 seasonals to enjoy Lucky Star, they actually are only a part of what makes Lucky Star enjoyable.
I am currently rewatching it, and I am, however, noticing some signs that it may start aging relatively soon, and may already be less funny to children than it used to be, due to technological evolution and changes in society. A younger audience may, for example, not get the jokes about cellphones anymore. This is a bigger threat to Lucky Star in the long run than the references. And this should still not be relevant to an /a/ audience, but perhaps in 10 years.
