It is pretty clear, or very possible, that Black is a timeline/universe variant of Zamasu (the Kai) who wants to kill off humans for some slight or perceived injustice, such as humans time traveling or causing problems in the universe/the environment.

That was all filler. In the anime, there's an animated sequence showing Grandpa Gohan finding Baby Goku, but in the manga there's only text, which is why Minus could change those details. Really, Goku not being a baby makes much more sense, considering how Raditz expected him to know his mission.

If he called all sentient beings mistakes of the gods, it'd be hard to know what he's trying to protect or compare them to. He'd want a nearly empty universe if that was the case.

Also, Trunks's retelling of when Black first appeared noted that he wanted to eliminate all earthlings in the name of justice. He may have razed numerous planets already, but they could just be other universe/timeline versions of earth with a human populace. It hasn't been made clear.
