Yotsubato is aimed towards kids and the slang will fuck you in the ass. Having to constantly refer to the translations doesn't help either.

NHK Easy is aimed at kids but mostly foreign japanese learners. Articles are presented with simple vocabulary, are concise and even have built in look up functions for harder words. It might not be compelling, but it's a great way for you to gain confidence as you comprehend it yourself without relying on a crutch like translations.

I got to understand japanese sentences through being a weaboo for over 8 years. When i finally got to study japanese i already could pretty much read it if it was in romaji. Just by watching hundreds (actually just a little over a hundred really) of titles with subtitles and playing through hundreds of hours of different games i could get structure of sentences, as well as base vocabulary.
I can understand you though. Japanese prepositions and suffixes are really quite different from western ones.
I would actually recommend watching anime with subs for some time.

I don't think that's true at all. Hiragana spelling used to be much more idiomatic than it is today, with words like 今日 being spelled けふ. I'm fairly sure that は as a particle was still pronounced わ in classical Japanese. There's a historical relationship between the あ, は and わ rows because they don't have true consonants in them, which is also why を and へ are pronounced strangely as particles.

If you read Classical Japanese out loud today you read は as /wa/ when it's a topic particle, but in ancient times the whole ハ行 was pronounced with /p/ sounds, hence why adding a dakuten changes it into /b/. You don't have to think about mnemonics to read numbers or symbols, you just do it. It's really all about repetition until it clicks with you. You have to get to the point where you aren't thinking about the meaning in English, if you try to translate everything back to English to understand it you'll never be fluent.
Some anon further up was complaining about not being able to put together sentences he was reading, when his real issue was that he was trying to translate it all back into English to understand the meaning.
Mnemonics are good for initial learning but you should strive to get past them.

Funny thing is, the word にんじん (carrot) actually is spelled with the character for 'person': 人参. The second one is defined by jisho as:

another week. Do exercises or keep a journal or something that you write in a couple times a day in grammatically correct Japanese. This should help reinforce it.

The struggle is Kanji/vocab (you learn both at the same time) which you should be doing as soon as you got the Kana and basic Grammar down. You want to do daily drills for each character/word you learn, grammar excersizes with the Kanji you learn, AND lots of practice reading every day with the Kanji you learn to help you memorize and keep it in long term memory.

So how hyped are you for 大迷宮&大迷惑?

It's the upcoming Liar-soft title written by 希. The premise is rather 王道, with a huge dungeon appearing one day with the protagonist (plus girls he'll fuck or see tentacle fucked) setting out to conquer it, but the main hook is 希's text.

希's an accomplished writer known for his style reminiscent of early 20th century Japanese authors, and his previous games like 霞外籠逗留記 or 信天翁航海録. In an interview about 大迷宮&大迷惑 he says he takes inspiration mainly from 80's fantasy and dungeon crawlers, so it's gonna be really interesting to see how he makes it work with his highly literary writing style.

The patch only sorta adds voices to lines - it misses all the multi lined dialogues (Dr West sounds way better voiced) so you'll get one line voiced in a monologue and the rest missing. And misses loads of single lines as well since it was completely automated. Loads of side characters also get voiced as well that weren't in the original PC release.

The PS2 version and PC versions are different since PS2 was all-ages. So the lines don't line up properly and there's extra lines/parts missing from the PC version (Metatron has new lines everywhere from the PS2 version - porting that into the PC version is another patch entirely that I probably wouldn't be able to do unless I could reverse the PS2 game myself).
