Sales isn't a good indicator of fandom reception. It's not the same designs as Vivid. Takuya is once again doing the original character designs, but the people who are actually putting them in animation are completely different. The staff is entirely different, except for Tsuzuki of course.

The animation directors this time are Hashimoto, who worked on Nanoha since the very beginning and AD'd StrikerS and the two movies, and Niigaki, who's done work on the Monogatari series in the past. The character designer is Mariko Itou, who designed for the first season of Log Horizon and worked as chief AD on AKB0048, amongst other things.

You know, I think she is the perfect example as to why Nanoha is so garbage now. In Strikers, Lutecia was actually one of the most unique characters in the franchise, simply by the virtue of being stoic and somewhat sad. That sounds pathetic, but for this franchise it's actually commendable.

And what did they do? In vivid, they turned her into a happy-go-lucky friendly professional girl. AKA, EVERY FUCKING "GOOD SIDE" CHARACTER IN THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE. It's almost guaranteed Aniplex now like most things in anime nowadays since Inori Minase is the new person they're really trying to push after Sora Amamiya. If it's still managed by Aniplex like some are suggesting I doubt Seven Arcs being the studio again makes any level of difference. This company basically just takes established popular shit and uses it to promote their artists and products. There's little incentive to do it right if they figure it can sell on it's own. Not interested in it honestly. Nanoha hasn't even been passable as a franchise since the mid 2000's and I don't see how that's gonna change all of a sudden the way it's being passed around between studios, producers and teams like a used up whore nobody actually seems to want. King Records doesn't even publish Nanoha anymore, it's an Aniplex title. Being that it was essentially Pretty Cure x Gundam in the first place, it does make some degree of sense to try and expand to similar stories in the same universe but with different characters.

Beyond just the overwhelming popularity of Nanoha and Fate though, they keep changing up the formula in exchange for other random setups, something Gundam (mostly) avoids. Instead of sticking with the magical girl and mecha crossover elements, StrikerS was generic super-powered girls fighting, Force was some kind of awful cross between overwrought mecha-musume and whatever kind of mistake Thoma was, and ViVid (despite all its cute girls) is some kind of martial arts tournament story for like 40 chapters. None of them have what made Nanoha/A's great.

Nana and Yukarin obviously just have their schedules full doing lines for The Movie 3rd Reflections. It makes sense they'd have have to fill their space in the Vivid anime.

That’s utter bullshit. You have to be Aku no Hana levels of catastrophically bad for a BD release to not make you money. The Vivid BD release must be stuck in some form of production limbo with different investors/brand owners not agreeing with each other, there is no other way.

Aniplex only got involved with Nanoha later on and is the main culprit for Vivid, so this being back (kind of) to the original creators could even mean Aniplex won't be in on this party at all. This reeks strongly of King Records. Might be possible that Tsuzuki pulled the plug on Aniplex Vivid shenanigans and now had to accept some compromises to get the franchise going again with new King Records funding.

It’s puzzling whether the lack of Nanoha branding is a conscious decision to not dilute the brand and distance the new project from Vivid, or actually an indicator of the brand itself being in the same limbo that ate Vivid BDs.

The anime wasn'T always deviating in a bad way, for example the initial eps and the last one were made well IMHO despite being liberal and extended. But in the middle eps (7, 8 particularly, IIRC) they didn't really try.
