Why do /jojo/ hate Part 3 so much? It has some of the most iconic moments in all of manga for a reason and some great characters. To be fair to him, he wasn't that much of a cunt to the other pillar-men, he seemed upset when Wham and ACDC died, and sought revenge for them. He spent the whole Colosseum fight tense and worried about Wham, and when he started using that final attack he yelled at him not to because it'd threaten to kill him, which it did.

He was only really dickish when it came to humans, he stabbed Lisa Lisa in the back after promising her a fair fight, used her as bait to torment Joseph, killed a ton of his own vampires, etc.

You're right though, Wham's a better character and had a better role in the story, though. Wish there were more JoJo villains like him, who both gave and earned respect instead of being as loathsome as possible.

Part 2 is entertaining, yes, it was fun to read/watch and Whammu is the most underrated minor villain in the series.
But it's the worst written part. Joseph has no development, the side-cast is shafted greatly and is completely unmemorable, Caesar was just a dick then he suddenly became Joseph's friend and Joseph's reaction his death is the most forced thing in the manga.
It'd had a better impact if we actually got to see more of Caesar and like him, his death was supposed to make us feel sad for him but it just didn't do the trick.
And the minor villains were all either completely forgettable or just poor, hell, even Kars was less interesting than Santana and Whammuu and he's the main villain.

Every part has its inconsistencies, that's not why I think part 2 is flawed. It's fun but when you actually look into it the part is carried by Joseph, Stroheim and Whammuu alone, and it has by far the worst writing.

That doesn't mean it's bad though, compared to part 1 it was a HUGE step up and Joseph is easily one of the best JoJos, but part 2 honestly isn't as good as all the parts that come after it.

I wouldn't call Wham a 'minor villain', and the claim that Joseph didn't have any character-development just seems outright wrong.

When we first see Joseph, he stone cold doesn't give a fuck about honor, or duty, or the bigger picture. When he learns that Speedwagon is alive, he goes to fetch him but doesn't care about stopping Santana until Sanatana tries to kill him, and he admits that he was only using the one month of training thing as a bluff to try and escape from the pillar-men alive.

But after Caesar's death, instead of just taking the antidote and leaving with his life (which was, understandably, his original goal) Joseph dedicates himself to avenging Caesar honorably, and earning the right to take it. He wouldn't have done that if he was the same person he was at the start of the series.

Him and Caesar get a few bonding-moments - when Joseph lures Wham away from Caesar and Speedwagon, their training under Lisa Lisa with the hell-climb-pillar among other things, and the maneuver where Caesar uses the icicles to stop Joseph falling. Obviously it needed more, but it wasn't nothing, there was more of his and Joseph's friendship shown than, say, Jotaro and Kakyoin's, or Giorno and anyone's.

But the thing that bothered me the most about Joseph and Caesar's relationship is that once Caesar died, Joseph literally never mentioned him. Ever again. Not even in part 3 or 4, Caesar just felt like he was there to be used as a device for Joseph to get serious with his death.

I'd argue against Jotaro and Kakyoin's if you're talking about a Jo-Bro relationship since I think Jotaro's brojo was Polnareff through part 3 and they had quite a few nice moments together.

Same with Giorno and Mista, through White Album and Green Day they had the most bonding time together, right out the bat when Giorno was a newbie in the group Mista was the one who gave him the biggest chance.

I'm not arguing part 2 as the worst part or Joseph as the worst Jojo, but in comparison to the other parts and Jojos in the series they're just flat-out much better written.

Joseph's alright but every situation being resolved with I PLAY TRICK ON U would really have outstayed it's welcome if it was any longer or used anymore.
