Apparently he's very pushy regarding keeping to the "official" character sheets, rather than giving them freedom which just hurt the schedule even more. That's not the Sorbet style armor tough. It's basically the Bardock special armor with shoulder pads. No big crystal or those odd lower lines.

In the manga, Vegeta says that the shoulder pad armor is the newer model, and the one with the straps is older. In Dragon Ball Minus, Bardock's shoulder pad armor is broken so he presumably just wears his older armor when he goes to confront Freeza. I guess sometime over that month he starts wearing a bandanna too for some reason, I don't know.

Jaco has plenty of inconsistencies with the manga, I don't think Bardock dressing slightly differently is an important one.
