Well no answer last thread, maybe someone will know this time.

What's the difference between -てあげてください and -てくれて? I've seen both of those at least. Was always taught あげて is only when you give though but seems not to be the case.

To the anon who asked about text hookers on Linux quite a few threads earlier: I've made ITHVNR work on Wine, here's the build: https://a.pomf.cat/zbiwsf.zip

I reported the actual issue to the Wine maintainers, but I'm not sure if (or when) it will be fixed.

Is there any way I can move my progress in Anki from one computer to another? I have to go to another state for a week so I'll have to use my laptop.
>>
>>143013547
Yes.
>>
>>143013547
Use the built in synchronize function?
>>
>>143013509
>>143013501
So you're saying -てあげてください is basically a polite command then?
>>
>>143013336
Also, you probably should't be trying to learn from that picture considering the multiple instances of extra characters in it
>>
>>143013594
あげて means you are asking someone to do something as a favor for a third person
>>
>>143013579
Isn't that only for porting your progress to phones?
>>
>>143013692
It works with any version of anki.

But that's not what's happening at >>143013336

So it seems to double for てください / くれる then?

Where did these translations come from? They seem better than the ones in the deck. Could there be some different version of the core deck than the one in the guide?

It's about three guys who were born in 1987, belonging to the Yutori generation, basically millennials to us. They are called Yutori in Japan in reference to when the Japanese government installed the Yutori education policy which is more relaxed, having less hours and content in the curriculum.

Are there any benefits at all of learning kanji?
I mean, I intend on learning at least hiragana, but kanji seems like such a drag.

Not really. If you're asking whether I pay attention to the primitives, then of course I do. Everyone does, eventually. The basics of Japanese are very simple as long as you don't try to translate it literally into one other language, any bilingual learner has that advantage. However, once you get into reading native material you'll see just how much practice you need to keep up with "real" Japanese.

My deck is 2+ years old so I'm guessing you're retarded and can't read. Even edict doesn't give any insight as to there being a difference between 遭う and 遇う. But if you have to whine about that instead of just searching it then you might as well give up already.

That's true, although it probably doesn't really help. You have to understand that you're not looking for literal equivalent of the word/phrase/whatever, that's usually impossible. Or it is possible, but it sounds clumsy due to differences in languages. You have to look for *meaning* and replicate it as closely as you can while preserving flow of the given language etc.

>That isn't how the brain handles language, despite whatever bonus confidence this feel good delusions may bring you.
Once you get good at a language you stop translating it to your native language and deriving meaning from that.
When people start learning a language and they face a difficult sentence they attempt to translate it word for word, grammar structure for grammar structure. This is different from "feeling a sentence."
In Japanese it's more important to learn to "feel" sentences from the get go than with other languages - especially because it uses an entirely different grammatical syntax than what people are used to from Germanic languages.

The brain absolutely does have both the function to "translate" a sentence and "feel" a sentence.

Mine does, though. I don't even bother learning many rules when getting familiar with a new language, just the basics. I figure the rest of it based on how it sounds to me, how it fits into the general structure. Every language has a rhythm of sorts and if you can feel it, it's going to be much easier for you.

>>143022403
Japanese grammar is hard to get to producing level because you basically have to learn how to make every type of statement from scratch, but it's not that hard to just get to the level where you can understand basic sentences.

That said it's probably still harder than most other languages, but it takes a lot less time than like reaching adult level vocabulary
>>
>>143022589
This. My Japanese professor told us this during our first class: "I have good and bad news for you. The bad news is that kanji is probably the most difficult writing system in the world. The good news is that everything else in Japanese is primitive."
>>
>>143022625
I think the idea is that it's actually way easier to get to that producing level than it is for other languages, considering there is pretty much only 1 conjugation you have to learn and like 3 irregular basic verbs. It's much faster to get to the point where you know what to say instead of having to calculate it out in your head. Nouns and adjectives have no declensions.
It's very alien to English speakers but it's definitely not complex.

Pointless. Pre-made vocab decks like Core are supposed to prep you for reading so you don't need to look up every single word you see and hopefully at least know one or two words in most sentences.

Once you've started reading, Core loses its purpose. Because the words in Core are so common, you will run into them all before long anyway, at which point you can just mine them rather than waiting for them to show up in Core.

Finished RTK1 at a pace of one lesson a day, moved on to Core2K and shooting for 50 words a day. As might be expected, the readings are giving me a lot more trouble than the definitions. Are there any specific strategies for this? Is RTK2 woth looking into for this or should I just let the cards do their thing? Still having fun either way, cheers.

At 50 words a day the fun will die out. As far as remembering readings goes you just need to grind it out and look at the card a million times there isn't really a strategy unless you wanna make up a ton of mnemonics
>>
>>143022434
am I the only one who cringes at shit like this?
>>
>>143034664
You can do whatever RTK2 does in your head if you just keep attention to those readings.

The secret is, the on-yomi usually comes from the right/middle/inner radical, so look for those.
>>
>>143034664
do you spend any amount of time reading?
I found word readings to be extremely easy to remember after doing kanji study (recall/production anki deck, no RTK book)
readings are often associated with radicals so if you recognize a radical in a kanji it can help
ex. 舗 補 捕、織 識
etc.
but what helps the most is just seeing the kanji in a bunch of words though and only way to do that is to read a lot with a jisho tab open
2k/6k isn't enough on its own unless you want to pump it up to 100+ new cards a day and watch your time slowly seep down the anki drain

I never read manga or LN in english in the first place. it just doesn't appeal to me. Some doujins with too many words, sure, since trying to interpret Japanese while my main objective is rubbing my dick just doesn't mesh.

I watch anime, but that's different because you're still hearing the language underneath even when it's subbed. Reading manga or LNs in English would be like watching dubbed anime. Translated shit just doesn't match up to native content of either language so it makes me feel like I'm wasting my time.

Even more so now that I've actually seen what an LN is written like in Japanese. It's hard to imagine translating it in a way that carries across even half of the original intent behind each sentence. On top of that there's a ton of cultural references that there's no way you could transfer over without footnotes on every page.

I've spent the last 6 hours working on a program to help me make VN progress charts instead of doing my reps. At one point I had to delete all of my code and start over because I was getting tons of errors and couldn't figure out why. Still quite a ways to go.

I'll be making charts for Hanahira and Satsukoi when I finish.
>>
>>143043301
not that good, I probably look up a dozen words a page when the LN I'm reading gets dense
though my kanji level is pretty good so I remember readings well
no need for boring anki decks. in the end grammar level is more important

Ultimately it will end up with a chart like this one I made for Flyable Heart. I made that one with a stopwatch, a notebook, and a lot of time in paint.

With the program, I start it, then start the VN in skip mode. While it is skipping I press the buttons to mark any events/choices I think are good for judging progress but won't spoil anything when I put them on the chart. It will also pause when I get to any choices, which is nice.

The charts are useless to me, since I've already finished the VNs, but I think they will be useful to other people.
>>
>>143044464
That's pretty nice, and actually was useful for me, since I wanted an estimate for how long I have left of FH.

I wonder if it'd be possible to automatically generate a choice tree as well in order to explore all endings.
>>
>>143044600
I don't know what a VN choice tree would look like. I always read with a guide so I probably wouldn't have much use for it anyway.

Fuck off shitposter, complete beginners might take you seriously.
It's been over a year at least since the DoJG deck has been updated; it's time for cretins like you to accept it as the other basic indispensable Anki decks like the Core decks for Japanese learners.
Or not, just keep your retardation to your fucking selves, were it can't cause any potential harm.
>>
>>143048058
>>It's been over a year at least since the DoJG deck has been updated
Is this supposed to be a good thing? You realise that this isn't because it has been perfected, but because the author got bored and stopped maintaining it, right?
>>
>>143048086
>Is this supposed to be a good thing?
Are you retarded? It's effectively complete and only a fool wouldn't use it.
There is really nothing else that needs to be done to fundamentally improve it.

Look, it's painfully obvious that you're one of those braindead "no grammar study" retards, but shut the fuck up already. Your presence is literally detrimental to everyone else.
