Big Mom's ability creates a tether on a certain spot using the victim's life. Each step the victim takes takes away a year of their life.

It's noteworthy how much of a tank Doffy was especially for a non logia head villain. He didn't even use his awakening before he took a shit ton of damage. If the plot had followed the original plan that was to get Kaido, who was stated to be more than capable of utterly destroying Doffy, to engage him, we would not have seen how much effort it would take for even a trained Luffy to take him out.

It serves as a reminder on how strong, or actually how durable we should expect villains to be in the New World.

Luffy is certainly capable of dealing shitton of damage but his endurance is his weak point. If he can't deal enough damage fast enough he is out of the game for a while before he can attack again. Something that someone close to admiral level can take advantage of.

I, for one enjoyed the fight just for those reasons even though I would enjoy to see two villains fight to the death on screen.

Are you kidding? Enies Lobby has the most iconic scenes in the manga: I want to live, Sogeking, Merry coming to the rescue, G2, G3, Monster Chopper, Robin flashback etc. And Namis fight was far better than against Mrs. Doublefinger too.

But does everyone remember, pre-timeskip, outside the slave auction house in sabaody archipelago. Just before Borsalino and his nephew + the pacifistas came, Kidd, Luffy and Law were fighting together, holding off the marines. Do you think that was foreshadowing for a possible Strawhat/Heart/Kid Pirate alliance?

We already have the Strawhat/Heart alliance, and Kidd is shown in [pic related] to have fallen out of favour with Kaidou and is spared and told to "go and tell" law and luffy that Kaidou is coming for them. If we're talking about ambition, I get the sense that Kidd is on a level with Blackbeard, but less patient and not as crafty. So with that, I don't think Kidd is the kind of guy who would give up and would probably seek revenge.

She's arguably one of the most important in the long run because of her knowledge and ability to read Poneglyphs. Also, since she's the only other girl, and she doesn't act like an idiot all the time, she functions as a relief for Nami, whose navigational skills put her as the most important member of the crew, as far as jobs go.
